Assignment 2
1. a) Use a mathematical tool to make bode plots of the following op-amp compensation circuits.
You may assign ωz =1 and ωp =100 for illustrative purpose.

a) A boost converter operates with current mode control has the following parameters.
Vin = 12 Vdc Vout=20V D=0.4 L = 60uH C=500uH (ESR =0) Rload = 20 Ω
fs = 50 KHz The load current is high enough for continuous mode (CCM) operation.
From “General Current Mode equations” in the notes, write down transfer function of the boost
converter. Use a mathematical tool, or otherwise, and plot the control to output transfer
function and show the gain and phase plots in the frequency domain 10 Hz to 20kHz.

b) i) Now a compensator is need to produce zero steady state error. The inverting amp is not a
suitable compensator. Give brief explanations.

Try to use the for zero steady state error.

to complete the close loop design for a phase margin not less than 30 degree. In each case
work out the op amp component values. Illustrate the phase margin on bode plots. Finally state
which of the two do you prefer.
(5 marks)
You may follow the steps : select cross over frequency; placement of poles and zeros; adjust the
compensator gain and finally check and adjustment by mathematical tool.
