II. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:


o differentiate between First Conditional and Zero Conditional sentences; (Knowledge)
o construct sentences using First and Zero Conditionals in a written exercise; and (Skill)
o appreciate the use of conditionals in forming logical arguments during
class discussions. (Attitude)

A. Preparatory Activity

B. Activity
 The teacher will have a "Conditional Sentence Relay" activity.
 Divide the class into two groups.
 Give each group a set of flashcards, each with a clause
 Each group has to match clauses to create correct conditional sentences (either First or
Zero Conditional).The first team to correctly pair all clauses wins.
C. Analysis
 The teacher will ask the following questions:
 How did you find the activity?
 What have you observed from the flashcards?
 What have you noticed from your answers or responses?
 What have do you think is our topic today?
D. Abstraction
 The teacher will discuss the topic:

Conditionals are extremely important in the English language because they help us express things that may
happen in the present and future. Conditionals serve many purposes and take several different forms. They
can be used to give advice, express regret and discuss facts, among other things.
A conditional sentence has 2 parts: the if clause and the result clause.

BASIC TYPES OF CONDITIONALS


ZERO (0) CONDITIONALS
This type of conditional sentence talks about things that are always, or generally true. It is also used to talk
about scientific facts.

FIRST (I) CONDITIONAL


This type of conditional talks about future events that are likely to happen.

E. Application
 The class will be having another group activity “Expressing Arguments with
conditionals”.
 Each group will be given a scenario card(e.g., “It might rain tomorrow,”)
 The groups will create two sentences for each scenario- one using a Zero
Conditional and another using a First Conditional.
 Each group will present their answers in front of the class creatively.
(Presentation will be 3 mins only)
Criteria for scoring:
Proper comparing and contrasting of ideas --------- 10 points
Creativity -------- 8 points
Teamwork ------ 2 points
Total ------- 20 points

 Why is it important to understand the difference between a general truth and a future
possibility when communicating with others?

V. Evaluation
A. Directions: Complete each sentence with Zero Conditionals. Writer the letter of your answer
on your answer sheet.
