1 Introduction
The purpose of this document is to describe how to install and configure applicationHA agent on Linux
platform for product version : 5.1SP2.

3 Pre requisites
- ApplicationHA console installed on virtual center

4 Instructions
4.1 Before installing Symantec ApplicationHA for guest components

lists the hardware requirements for Symantec ApplicationHA.

4.1.1 Supported Linux operating systems

- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 with Update 3 (2.6.18-128.el5 kernel) or later, Architecture:
x86_64
- Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 5 with Update 3 (2.6.18-128.0.0.0.1.el5) or later, Architecture:
x86_64

4.1.2 Required disk space

The approximate disk space usage for Symantec ApplicationHARPMsis as follows:

Symantec ApplicationHA uses certain ports and services during installation and configuration. If you have configured a
firewall, ensure that the firewall settings
allow access to these ports and services on the virtual machines.

4.1.5 Symantec ApplicationHA license

An evaluation key is embedded in the product and is valid for two months. You can use all the product features during
that period. To continue unrestricted usage, you must procure a valid license key.

4.2 ApplicationHA installation methods for guest components

4.2.1 Automated installation using the ApplicationHA response files

At the end of each successful installation, the install program creates response files. We use these response files to
perform multiple installations to set up multiple virtual machines.

On Linux/Solaris distribution server :

- On install server (ex:pr2vmx02 on Singapore level 3), navigate to the folder contains the response file template
(/install/distrib/linux-intel/applicationHA/5.1/dvd2-linux/rhel5_x86_64/cluster_server/responsefile) and copy it to
specific hostname.
example : cp installapplicationha.response_template installapplicationha.pr2vmx02.response
- edit this file and change XXXXXXX by the vm hostname (pr2vmx02 in this example)

On Vm where you want to install applicationHA guest component (pr2vmx02 in this example)

- Confirm that you are logged in as the super user and you mounted the product disc.
- use nfs server : mount pr2vmx02:/install /install
- Navigate to the folder that contains the installapplicationha install program.
cd /install/distrib/linux-intel/applicationHA/5.1/dvd2-linux/rhel5_x86_64/cluster_server
- Start the installapplicationha with response file.
./installapplicationha -responsefile responsefile/installapplicationha.pr2vmx02.response

4.2.2 Setting the PATH variable

Installation commands as well as other commands reside in the /opt/VRTS/bin directory. Add this directory to your PATH
environment variable.

4.3 Manual install

Use nfs server or iso file (connect iso file on Virtual center as a cdrom) to access to the
distribution

./installapplicationha

5 Controls

6 Troubleshooting
6.1 ApplicationHA tab displays the "Unable to retrieve the
status of this virtual machine" error
The Symantec ApplicationHA tab in the vSphere Client console may display the following error:

Unable to retrieve the status of this virtual machine. Please verify the following:

 VMware Tools is installed

 Symantec ApplicationHA is installed and the required services are running

 The machine is switched on, has a valid IP address, and is accessible over the network

 The required ports are not blocked by a firewall

Verify the following conditions and then refresh the ApplicationHA tab in the vSphere Client console:

 Verify that the ApplicationHA Console host is running and is accessible over the network.

 Verify that the Symantec ApplicationHA Service is running on the ApplicationHA Console host.

 Verify that the vCenter Server is running and accessible over the network.

 Verify that the VMware Tools Service is running on the guest virtual machine.

 Verify that the Veritas Storage Foundation Messaging Service is running on the vCenter Server.

If it is stopped, type the following on the command prompt:

net start xprtld

 Verify the VMware Web Service is running on the vCenter Server.

 Verify that ports 14152, 14153, and 5634 are not blocked by a firewall.

 Verify that the VMware Web Service port that was configured before registering the ApplicationHA plugin is still
being used.

If the Web Service port has changed, unregister the ApplicationHA plugin on the vCenter Server and register it
again.
