Section A (Quadratic Equation – 26 Marks)
Q1 Solve(Any 3)

a) x2 -6= 2√2x.
b) (2x+3)/(x+3) = (x+4)/(x+2)
c) 4x+(6/x)+13=0
d) x2+2(m-1)x+(m+5)=0 9 Marks
Q2 If -5 is a root of the quadratic equation 2x 2 + px – 15 = 0 and the quadratic equation p(x 2 + x)
+ k = 0 has equal roots, find the value of k 4 Marks
Q3. Find the values of k for each of the following quadratic equations, so that they have two
equal roots.
(i) 2x2 + kx + 3 = 0
(ii) kx (x – 2) + 6 = 0 6 Marks
Q4 Find the discriminant of the equation 3x 2– 2x +1/3= 0 and hence find the nature of its roots.

Q5 without solving the following quadratic equation, find the value of ‘p’ for which the roots are

Q6 If the sum of the first n terms of an AP is 4n − n2, what is the first term? What is the sum of
first two terms? What is the second term? Similarly find the 3rd, the 10th and the nth terms.

Q9 Find the 9th term of an AP from the end, where AP is 5,9,13,17….? 3 Marks
Q10 Which term will be 0 of the following series 658, 644, 630, 616……? 4 Marks

(iv) ∆ PDC ~ ∆ BEC
