Assignment 5

This document is an assignment for CEE 2219: Statics and Introduction to Strength of Materials at the University of Zambia. It consists of two questions: the first requires determining forces in a truss using the method of joints, while the second involves plotting graphs of forces in specific members as a load moves along a defined path. The assignment is due on June 6, 2024, and requires physical submission.

ASSIGNMENT 5
DUE DATE: 6th JUNE, 2024
PHYSICAL SUBMISSION

QUESTION 1
Determine the forces in all the members of the truss shown below using the method of joints.
State whether they are tension or compression. (Note, after you finish solving the question, you
should summarize all your answers at the end)

QUESTION 2
By solving using the method of section, Plot the graphs of the forces (y – axis) in Members HG,
BG and BC on the same axis as the 44 KN load moves from A to B to C to D to E (x – axis).
(Note that all three plots must be on one diagram. Make the plot diagram sufficiently visible for
all to see.)
