Understanding maps
Put yourself as any point of reference to find the relative direction of any point asked
in the question. For example, if the question asks you to find the location of V, put
yourself as given points on the map and see your north, south, east, west and
intermediate directions of NE, NW, SE, SW. In a map without provinces, use the
provided information of topography, latitude/longitude, distance key, river, sea,
boundaries etc. to find location.
To know the direction of v, become Arabian sea and see if V is at your right hand or left,
in front of you or behind you, or if it is present in between these positions. You can see
that V is in front of you (Norh) but also a little to your right-hand side (east). The
direction will be North-East. Now become Indus River and check where is V according
to your position. It is at your left-hand side (west). If you are Balochistan plateau, V is
slightly below and behind you (south) but also a little bit to your right (East) which will
make it to the South-East of the Balochistan Plateau. Similarly, given V is present just
on the boundary of the Arabian sea, you can easily identify that it is located along the
coastline.
2.1 This is a province-state level map. It will ask questions involving provinces as
mentioned in the key also.
Vertical=90◦= Longitude
Horizontal=0◦= latitude
For example, in this map, you can see that the distance between two long./lat. is 4
sections (64 to 68, 68 to 74 etc.) to state the location of Sindh, you can easily
calculate through even marking equally distant dots on the maps with a pencil
between two marked longitudes. The location of Sindh, therefore will be
approximately fall between 67E and 69E while for latitude it will be almost 23N-
29N.
In this map, you can also be asked to calculate the distance between two points such as
X and Y. To find it out, use the distance key provided in the map. Connect the two points
with a straight line with a pencil (and erase it later) and approximate the length of that
line according to the measurement given.
For example, the distance between the exact points X and Y will be around 600-620 km.
3.1 This map is based on distribution (percentage) like a pie chart.
This map also does not take in account provinces directly. If the question is formed in a
way to ask provincial distribution, then you are going to use it otherwise the given
distance and %age key will be used and general directions such as NE, SW etc.
Directions according to the mentioned neighboring states etc. might also be used if
appropriate in the question.
5.1 This map only takes in account the distribution of population according to the
key it has provided. No national or international places have been identified
meaning they are not important or relevant here.
You will use all the three keys (distance, boundaries, urban population) and the
directions to read and answer any questions.
For example, the question may ask about the least urban population which you can
identify using the population key and the sizes of the dots representing the amount of
people residing in those areas. Here, you can see that the least urban population
distribution is present towards the Western international boundary while the most urban
population lies in the North East.
