Common Personality Disorders - Summary

Personality disorders are patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that seriously affect daily life and

relationships. They're grouped into 3 clusters:

Cluster A: Suspicious

- Paranoid Personality Disorder: Distrusts everyone-even close ones. Always suspects others are out to get

them.

- Schizoid Personality Disorder: Emotionally distant, prefers being alone, avoids social life.

- Schizotypal Personality Disorder: Believes they can control people/events with their thoughts. Often

misreads situations and avoids close relationships.

Cluster B: Emotional and Impulsive

- Antisocial Personality Disorder: Breaks rules, aggressive, no guilt. Often lies, steals, or uses drugs.

- Borderline Personality Disorder: Feels empty, fears being left out. Mood swings, impulsive actions, even

self-harm.

- Histrionic Personality Disorder: Overdramatic, attention-seeking, sensitive to criticism.

- Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Thinks they're superior. Shows off, lacks empathy.

Cluster C: Anxious

- Avoidant Personality Disorder: Feels inferior. Fears rejection and avoids people.

- Dependent Personality Disorder: Can't make decisions alone. Always needs support and fears being left.

- Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder: Obsessed with rules, perfection, and order. Gets upset if

things aren't perfect.
