W ORLD AIDS DAY

Observed annually on December 1.
Purpose: To raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, support those living with the condition, and remember
lives lost to AIDS-related illnesses.
First Observed: 1988, making it the first global health day.
Theme : "Take the rights path: My health, my right!".

N ATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY

Observed annually on December 2.
Objective: To raise awareness about pollution and its harmful effects on health and the environment.
Significance: Commemorates the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy (1984), one of the world’s worst
industrial disasters, caused by a leak of methyl isocyanate gas, leading to thousands of deaths and long-
term environmental damage.
Theme : "Clean Air, Green Earth: A Step Towards Sustainable Living."

I NTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY

Observed annually on December 2.
Aim : to raise awareness about the prevalence of modern slavery and its various forms, including human
trafficking, forced labor, child labor, and forced marriages.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1986 to focus on ending modern slavery practices.

WORLD C OMPUTER LITERACY DAY

Observed annually on December 2.
Aim : To spread awareness about the importance of technological skills and encourage their development
worldwide.
First observed in 2001, launched by the Indian computer company NIIT on its 20th anniversary.

WORLD D ISABILITY DAY

Celebrated annually on 3 December
Aim : to raise awareness of disability issues and promote the rights and well-being of persons with
disabilities
Theme : "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future."

INDIAN N AVY DAY

Observed annually on 4th December.
Aim : to honor the valor, achievements, and sacrifices of the Indian Navy.
Theme : 'Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation.

WORLD WILDLIFE CONSERVATION DAY

Celebrated every year on 4 December.

Purpose: To become aware, reflect, and take action when it comes to issues that are threatening the
planet’s wildlife biodiversity balance.

In 2012, Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State at that time, put out a call to action to raise awareness and
engage conservationists and wildlife enthusiasts about World Wildlife Conservation Day.

INTERNATIONAL V OLUNTEER DAY (IVD)

Celebrated every year on 5 December.
Theme : “Recognize volunteers' contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.
Purpose:
Highlights the contributions of volunteers globally to peace and development.
Promotes awareness of volunteerism as a tool for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Established by the UN General Assembly in 1985.

WORLD SOIL DAY

Observed annually on 5th December.
Objective: To raise awareness about the importance of soil health, sustainable ecosystem management,
and human well-being.
Theme : Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.

BR AMBEDKAR’S DEATH ANNIVERSARY

Observed annually on 6th December.
Objective: The day is observed to commemorate his unforgettable contribution to society and his
achievements.

NATIONAL M ICROWAVE OVEN DAY

Observed annually on 6th December.
Objective: To celebrate and honor the invention that has made their lives easier by making it convenient
and faster for them to cook and reheat food.
Theme : "Revolutionize Your Kitchen"

ARMED FORCES FLAG DAY

Observed annually on 7 December
Objective : Honors martyrs and brave soldiers of India who safeguard the country's borders.
Established in 1949 by the Baldev Singh Committee.

INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION DAY

Observed on 7 December
Aim : to raise awareness about the importance of aviation for social and economic development and the
role of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

BODHI DAY
Observed annually on December 8.
Aim : to honors the day Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya,
India, becoming the Buddha.
It symbolizes spiritual awakening and insight into human suffering and its cessation.

INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY

Observed annually on December 9.
Objective: To raise awareness about corruption's impact on society and promote the implementation of
the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
Theme : "Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity"

HUMAN R IGHTS DAY

Celebrated annually on 10 December.
Aim : to raise awareness about protecting and respecting human rights globally.
Theme: Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.
Adoption: Marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 by the UN
General Assembly.

DEFENCE

EXERCISE AGNI WARRIOR (XAW-2024)

Current Context : Recently, the 13th edition of Exercise AGNI WARRIOR (XAW-2024) concluded at Field
Firing Ranges, Devlali (Maharashtra).
About Exercise AGNI WARRIOR:
It is a joint military exercise between the Indian Army and Singapore Armed Forces.
Aimed at enhancing mutual understanding of artillery drills and achieving jointness as a multinational
force under the UN Charter.
Participants :
Involved 182 personnel from Singapore Artillery and 114 from the Indian Army's Regiment of Artillery.

EXERCISE CINBAX
Current Context : The 1st edition of Joint Table Top Exercise, CINBAX commenced at Foreign Training
Node, Pune.
About Exercise CINBAX:
Participants: Jointly conducted by the Indian Army and Cambodian Army.

Objective: Enhances coordination in Counter-Terrorism (CT) operations under Chapter VII of the UN
Charter.
Focus Areas: Intelligence, surveillance, cyber and hybrid warfare, logistics, casualty management, and

HARIMAU S HAKTI 2024

Current Context: India- Malaysia Joint Military Exercise ‘Harimau Shakti’ commenced in Malaysia.

About Harimau Shakti 2024

It is annual training event conducted alternatively in India and Malaysia.
Aim: To enhance joint military capability of both sides to undertake counter insurgency operations in
jungle terrain.

DESERT K NIGHT EXERCISE: TRILATERAL AIR COMBAT EXERCISE

Current Context : India, France, and the UAE have commenced an air combat exercise named “Desert
Knight” over the Arabian Sea.
Aim : to enhance defense cooperation and improve the ability of the three countries’ air forces to operate
together in complex combat scenarios
The event takes place in the Arabian Sea, approximately 350-400 km southwest of Karachi, lasting three
days
Aircraft Involved:
India: Sukhoi-30MKIs, Jaguars, IL-78 refuellers, and AEW&C systems deployed from Jamnagar
France: Rafale jets, known for their versatility and advanced combat capabilities
UAE: F-16 fighters stationed at Al Dhafra airbase

SLINEX-24 (SRI LANKA–INDIA EXERCISE 2024)

Current Context :Bilateral naval exercise SLINEX held between India and Sri Lanka.
Location: Visakhapatnam, under Eastern Naval Command.
Participating Units:
India: INS Sumitra (Offshore Patrol Vessel) and Special Forces team.
Sri Lanka: SLNS Sayura (Offshore Patrol Vessel) and Special Forces team.
