Ages: Ages: The ratio of the ages of

father and the son at present is 6:1. After 5 years the ratio will become
7:2. What is present age of the son?
Sol: present age of son is x and father age is 6X After five years
(6x+5)/x+5 = 7/2
12x +10 =7x +35
5x =25
X=5
Present age of son = 5 years
Present age of father = 6x = 6(5) = 30 years.

Six years ago the ratio of the ages of Mahesh and Suresh was 2 : 1. The ratio of their
present ages is 9 : 5 respectively. what is the present age of Mahesh?

Sol: Mahesh age be 2x.

Suresh age be x.

Six years ago,

2x – 6/ x – 6 = 9/ 5.

5( 2x – 6) = 9(x – 6).

10x – 30 = 9x – 54.

10x – 9x = 54 – 30

X = 24

Present age of Mahesh= 2x + 6

= 2*24 +6 = 48+6

= 54 years.

A's age is one-sixth of B's age. B's age will be twice of C's age after 10 years. If C's eighth
birthday was celebrated two years ago, then the present age of A must be
Sol: c's 8th birthday was celebrated 2yrs ago.

Thus c's present age is 10years.

Let B's present age be x years.

X+ 10 = 2(10+10).
X+ 10 = 2(20).
X+ 10 = 40.
X = 40 – 10.
X = 30.
A's age is 1/6th of B's age.
= 1/ 6* 30.
= 5years.

Sachin was twice as old as Ajay 10 years back. How old is Ajay today if Sachin will
be 40 years old 10 years hence?

Sol: If 10 years hence, Sachin will be 40 years old

So, the Present age of Sachin = 40 -10 = 30 years

10 years ago, the age of Sachin = 30 – 10 = 20 years

It is given that :

10 years ago,
The age of Sachin = 2 × age of Ajay

⇒ age of Ajay (10 years ago) = 20 / 2 = 10 years

⇒ Present age of Ajay = 10 + 10 = 20 ages.

A father is twice as old as his son. 20 years back, he was twelve times as
old as the son. What are their present ages?
Sol: Let the age of

Father = f
Son = s.
F= 2s.
F – 20 = 12 (S – 20)
2S – 20 = 12(S – 20).
2S – 20 = 12S – 240.
12S – 2S = 240 – 20.
10S = 220.
S = 220/ 10.
S = 22.
F = 2S = 2 * 22 = 44 years
Fifteen years hence, a man will be four times as old as he was fifteen years ago. His
present age is

Sol: Let the present age of the man be x years

(X + 15) = 4(x – 15)

X + 15 = 4x – 60.
4x – x = 60+ 15.
3x = 75
X = 75/ 3.
X = 25.

The average age of the mother and her 6 children is 12 years which is
reduced by 5 years if the age of the mother is excluded by 5 years. How
old is the mother?
Sol: Total age of the mother and six children
= 12 * 7 = 84 years.

Total age of 6 children.

= 7* 6 = 42 years.

Mother is 42 years old.
Percentages :
What percentage is equivalent to ½.
Sol: ½ * 100 = 50℅.
What fraction is 50℅ .
Sol: 50℅ = 50/ 100 = ½.

What is 25℅ of 1000?

Sol: 25℅ of 1000.
= 25 * 1000/ 100.
= 25* 10.
= 250.

30℅ of x is 72, The value of x is :

Sol: 30℅ of x = 72
X = 72 * 100/ 30.
X = 7200/ 30
X = 240.

What is 20℅ of 25℅ of 300?

Sol: 20℅ of 25℅ of 300.
20/100* 25 / 100 * 300.
= 1/ 5 * ¼ * 300.
= 15.

In a school,
60
%
Of the students are interested in playing cricket. If the total number of
students is
2000
, then how many of them play cricket?
Sol: 60℅ of 2000 students.
= 60 * 2000/ 100.
= 120000/100.
= 1200.

In a class of 50 students , 10 students failed in maths. What is the

percentage of students who passed in maths?
Sol: according to question.
10 students failed in maths, number of students who passed in maths =
50- 10 = 40.
So, the ℅ age of students who passed in maths .
= (40/50 * 100)℅
= 80℅
The monthly income of Mohan is Rs.30000/−. If Rakesh earns 50%50% more than
Mohan, then find the monthly income of Rakesh?

Sol: Monthly income of mohan = Rs. 30,000.

Monthly income of rakesh =
150℅ of mohan's income.
= 150℅ of Rs.30,000.
= (150*3000)/ 100.
= 45,000.

Averages:

A batsman scores 30, 40 and 50 runs in three consecutive matches .

= 120 / 3
= 40.
What is the average of the first five even natural numbers?

= 840/ 28.
= 30days.

The average of the marks obtained in an examination by

8 students was 51 and by 9 other students was 68. The average marks
of all 17 students was:
Sol: sum of total number of 8students in exam.
= 8 * 51 = 408.

Sum of total number of

9 students in exam
= 9 * 68 = 612.
Requried average = (408+612)/17.
= 1020/ 17.
= 60.

Is mixed with 8kg of rice costing Rs.40 per kg . the average per price of
mixed rice is :
Sol: total cost of 20kg rice.
= (12* 30 + 8* 40)
= Rs.680.
Average = 680/ 20 = 34.

The average of 30 numbers is 40 and that of 40 numbers is 30.

The average of all the numbers is:
