Pokémon Pathways Mentor Guide
Pokémon Pathways Mentor Guide
This guide will help you navigate through the specifics of your mentor storyline and help
you pick one if you are indecisive. Obviously, there are massive spoilers ahead; so,
you should proceed with caution if you wish to read this. Now that a warning has been
issued, let us delve deeper into what a mentor is. Essentially, they are fellow students with a
lot more experience under their belt. Their role is to guide you throughout your stay at the
academy, which leads you to getting entangled into their own problems. This is one of the
many facets of the game’s progression, and one that you cannot skip fully. All mentors have
two different routes they walk on based on your choices from D to A-rank. Some routes may
end earlier than others depending on how you choose to play, and some may span all the
way to S-rank (note that the main storylines for all mentors end at A-rank as of version
9.1.3) and have unforeseen circumstances. Let it be said that all mentor routes have pros
and cons, and one being better than another in terms of what it has to offer to you depends
solely on your own taste. Essentially, whoever you pick is actually the best mentor for you.
Born:
• Pokémon:
- Cyndaquil: at D-rank, Born will bring you (or force you) to get ice cream with him.
This will eventually lead to a fight against Akiza. If you win, your mentor will reward
you with a regular Cyndaquil.
- Fidough: at D-rank, Born will bring you (or force you) to get ice cream with him. If you
take the time to talk to the NPCs, you will come across a young chef badmouthing
Born. He will give you a Fidough if you accept to keep it a secret between you two.
- Noibat: at C-rank, Born will bring you (or force you) to Dragon’s Den in order to catch
a Dragon-type Pokémon. In his classic fashion, he will needlessly pick up a fight with
a fellow S-rank student. If you waste time on that, you’ll eventually get a Noibat.
- Vibrava: at C-rank, Born will bring you (or force you) to Dragon’s Den in order to
catch a Dragon-type Pokémon. In his classic fashion, he will needlessly pick up a
fight with a fellow S-rank student. If you remind him of your goal, you get a Vibrava.
• Items:
- Castellia Cone: you get a few, usually after you are done with the event of the rank.
- TR62 Dragon Pulse: you get it as a gift for becoming a B-rank student.
- Clear Amulet: if you manage to clear Grace’s name, you will receive this by the end
of the A-rank event. You need 50 Charm by B-rank to start this, and you have to
successfully complete the quests given.
• Tutor:
- General Information: Grace will teach you some moves any number of times in the
Student Lounge. They are either late game Fairy-type TRs or a powerful support
move locked behind the highest rank subscription of a regular Move Tutor.
- Requirements: If you called Grace enough before getting Born’s C-rank cutscene for
her to enjoy your presence, she will entrust you with her Tinkatink in C-rank. Then, at
B-rank, you need to follow after her and go to the Principal’s Office right after the
cutscene where she gets taken by security. Your goal is to convince Yamamoto to
give you a chance to clear up her name, and you need 50 Charm for this to succeed.
Once you do, you will receive a quest to find Felix, the detective guy you saw in
Born’s C-rank event. He is always at the New Dawn if you can’t find him on campus.
He will give you his number, which does not do much. At A-rank, he will call you,
telling you he has a lead on the case. You have to meet him at the New Dawn
immediately. If you do, you will go together to hunt some Team Claw grunts. You
have to win this. Finally, after the A-rank event with Gavin is done, you need to meet
Grace in the Pokémon Center and accept to give her back her Tinkatink (it has to be
the one she gave you specifically.)
