Abstract
Communication is required to expand our existing awareness by learning new things from
others. There are numerous means of communication that students use to learn from others.
Apart from face to face and postal communication, one of the latest means is electronic
mediated communication e.g. email. One might wonder why email system should be replaced
with blogs. Students from dispersed environment need to feel their peer existence even when
they are miles away. It is well known that students interact effectively when they are not
under the control of anybody like a controller who starts the chat and close it at any time.
Thus, students need an online system where they can participate in discussions at any time
and be able to post and comment both in real time and asynchronously on others’ posts to
sustain discussions. This paper review previous studies and adopts the Design Science
research methodology in the development of the blog system paper towards supporting
learning
1. Introduction
A blog, short for weblog, is a frequently updated web page used for personal commentary or
business content. Blogs are often interactive and include sections at the button of individual
blog posts where readers can leave comments.
Most are written in a conversational style to reflect the voice and personal views of the
blogger. Some businesses use blogs to connect with target audiences and sell products.
Blogs were originally called weblogs, which were websites that consisted of series of entries
arranged in reversed chronological order, so the newest posts appeared at the top. They were
frequently updated with new information about various topics.
Today’s blogs are more likely to be a personal online journal or commentary related to a
business that’s frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs are
still often defined by their format, consisting of series of entries posted to a single page in
reverse chronological order.
A blog is usually devoted to a subject of interest to a targeted audience such as fashion,
politics or information technology. Blogs can be thought of as providing ongoing
commentary on a theme. They are intended to engage with a community interested in a topic
and the personality or products of the blogger or sponsoring business. Bloggers often pick
unique domain names that reflects the topic at hand, such as Not Another Cooking Show, a
Food Blog. Bloggers control their content and don’t have to rely on other outlets to publish
their views and connect with an audience.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Over the years it is of no doubt how the reach of information has become cheap and easy due
to the fact that there has being a massive growth in personal journals like blog where bloggers
share their thought concerning issues and also make news known to the world what is going
on within other places where not every know of. The advancement in blogging has made
information available to everyone.
Education and information goes hand in hand, that is to say, there can never be proper
education when the information consumed is not valid. And information as they say is a like
a weapon, it can kill and also save, so therefore, it is advisable for every institution to have its
special blog post where vital information concerning the school can be updated on.
Almost every institution in Ghana rely on Facebook, twitter (X), Instagram etc. To share their
vital information that concern their institution, sharing your information on Facebook is not
the problem but the problem is the institution can rather share the link of their blog website
on Facebook for interested one’s to follow there by helping the school to attract traffic and
also helps readers get information from the right source.
Social media handles are meant for the mass group, thereby overloaded with different
articles. The blend of post on these social media sometimes frustrate reader and creates
divided attention leaving the reader no doubt to attending other articles. So the need for a
special blog post for the institution would be apt and will help boost readers interest in this
institution.
