THE NATURE, STRUCTURE , AND


CONTENT OF K TO 12
EDUKASYONG PANTAHANAN AT PANGKABUHAYAN
WITH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Learning Outcome:
After complying with this lesson, you are expected to:
1. Analyze the nature, structure and content of the
K to 12 EPP/TLE.
Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) and
Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) exist as skills
subjects which are engaged in an experimental, contextualized
and authentic teaching and learning process to enable learners
develop and master the skills that are provided in the learning
competencies of the four areas of specialization which are
Home Economics, Agriculture & Fisheries, Industrial
Arts and Information Communication Technology.

Entrepreneurship is integrated in all areas in order


to imbed the entrepreneurial spirit to acquire skills in
computing expenses and income generated and consequently
to set their own business.
The teaching of EPP/TLE plays a vital role in the realization of
the overall goal of the K to 12 Curriculum. Graduates are
prepared to be skilled and ready to work, entrepreneurship
and middle skills.

Hence, the EPP/TLE teacher must have profound background


knowledge on the curriculum framework to give them
direction in achieving the expected learning outcomes and
performance standards into different paths - may it be for
further education, employment or entrepreneurship.
The Nature of EPP and TLE
The K to 12 Program envisioned all Filipino Graduates to possess
sufficient mastery of basic competencies to develop themselves to the
fullest, to be adequately prepared for the world of work or
entrepreneurship or higher education for solid moral and spiritual
grounding and to be globally competitive.

The vision encompasses the content and performance standards of


TLE which equip learners with knowledge and information, skills and
processes, right work values and life skills in the field of Home
Economics, Industrial Arts, Agriculture/Fishery Arts and Information
Communication Technology. Entrepreneurship is integrated with all
areas of TLE, so learners could later set-up their own business
applying their technological proficiency skills.
EPP and TLE are skills-based subjects, therefore the teacher
must bear in mind the principles in teaching these subjects.
Adopt an environment that equips learners with appropriate
facilities and equipment.
Engage learners in an experimental, contextualized and
authentic teaching-learning process.
Apply integrative teaching and learning approaches.
Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan is a learning
area intended for all Grades 4 to 6, both boys and girls. It is a
subject that could develop expertise of young individuals on
basic skills and habits related to everyday chores to prepare
them for real-life situations and to provide learning foundations
on skills needed for specialization later.
EPP and TLE have similar domains or content areas, but differ in their goals

The Structure of EPP/TLE
The conceptual framework shows that the four (4) field
subject areas are geared toward the development of
technological proficiency. The diagram below shows that
entrepreneurial concepts also form part of the foundation to
prepare learners to set up their own business in their area of
specialization.
The new TLE framework
as a course has two (2) streams:
1. Training Regulations-based TLE
2. Entrepreneurship-based TLE
Both streams are based on the Training Regulations, however
Entrepreneur-based TLE embeds entrepreneurship concepts
in the teaching of Home Economics, Industrial Arts, Agri-
Fishery Arts, and Information and Communication
Technology. Every school has its own choice of streams to
offer depending on the faculty, facilities and resources.

The Tech-Voc-based TLE is designed according to the


Training Regulations of the Technical Education Skills and
Development Authority (TESDA). It focuses on technical
skills and development in the area of specialization that the
learners.
The Entrepreneurship Education-based TLE is designed
to develop among learners some necessary livelihood skills
to enable them to start a small enterprise of their own.

The EPP/TLE Curriculum focuses on the field of the


following areas:

1. Home Economics (H.E.)- covers competencies on


family care, home making, health and hygiene, clothing
technology, food services, cosmetology.
2. Industrial Arts (IA) - emphasizes on drafting, electronics,
and automotive technology.

3. Agri-Fishery Arts (AFA) - provides learning


experiences on the art of raising and harvesting livestock
through agriculture or aquaculture.

4. Information and Communication Technology


(ICT) - develops various ICT skills such as computer
hardware servicing control services, among others.
The Content of EPP/TLE
The Learning Area Standard introduces the basic
concepts, skills and values that are to be developed.

The learner demonstrates the knowledge, skills,


values and attitudes in Technology and Livelihood
Education (TLE), which will enable to gain
employment, become an entrepreneur, a middle
level manpower and/or pursue higher education. -
K to 12 EPP/TLE.
The Key Stage Standards are specified basic knowledge and
skills clustered into 3 grade groups to ensure mastery of
the competencies systematically:

Grades 4 -6
The learner demonstrates an understanding of the basic
knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship & ICT,
Agriculture, Home Economics, and Industrial Arts toward
the improvement of personal life, family, and community.
Grades 7-10
The learner demonstrates an understanding of the basic
concepts of selected TLE course in Home Economics ,
Industrial Arts, Agriculture and Fishery Arts and ICT
competencies common to TLE courses such as use and
maintenance of tools, observing, safety in the workplace,
mensuration and calculation, and interpreting technical
drawings; and gains specialized knowledge and skills in at
least one TLE that would enable him/her.
Grades 11-12
The learner demonstrates specialized technical skills that
would enable him/her to obtain NC II.
