CAMWorksView Tutorial
1. CAMWORKSVIEW: AN INTRODUCTION
CAMWorksView is a new utility which was first introduced with the CAMWorks 2013 SP1
version (under a different name “Glovius”). This utility gets automatically installed when you
install CAMWorks 2013 SP1 or later versions.

XML: When this type is selected, CAMWorks generates the WIP images (depending on the
options selected) and transfers the machining information about each operation to an XML
file that can be displayed as an HTML file in a web browser. An XSL style sheet will be
used to merge the XML content with HTML formatting to determine the appearance of the
web page.
The following CAMWorksView Style Sheet templates are available in the Setup Sheet Options
dialog box:
For Mill Parts:
CWViewTemplate
Mill Operations
Mill Operations and WIP
Mill Tooling
The CAMWorksView templates differ from the other Style sheet templates available in
CAMWorks due to its capacity to generate 3D model views.
When any of the other available templates are applied, the Setup sheet displays only 2D images
of the stock, WIP models and finished part. When the CAMWorksView template is applied, the
Setup Sheet generated too displays 3D images of the stock, WIP models and finished parts.
However, when you click on any of the stock, WIP or finished part images, the corresponding
3D model view of the model is invoked. You can then zoom/rotate/pan the displayed 3D model
to your desired orientation. Once you shift focus from the 3D model to another location in the
Setup sheet (focus shifts when you left click the mouse in another location), a new snapshot of
the WIP model in its user-defined orientation will be generated.
Note: Viewing 3D models of the stock, WIP and finished part in the Setup Sheet requires
Active X Controls. Ensure that Active X controls are installed on your machine.
8. The top part of the generated setup sheet displays the general information (Material,
Stock size, Unit, Date, Setup name, Setup origin, etc.).
9. The generated setup sheet displays the list of all operation with details such as Speed,
Feed, Z Feed Rate, Tool Description, etc.
10. If you click on any of the WIP images displayed in the Setup Sheet, the corresponding
3D model view will be invoked.
11. You can zoom/rotate/pan the displayed 3D model to your desired orientation. Once you
shift focus from the 3D model to another location in the Setup sheet (focus shifts when
you left click the mouse in another location), a new snapshot of the WIP model in its
user-defined orientation will be generated.
12. You can also change the view orientation of the WIP model in the Setup Sheet by using
the view orientation options provided on right side of the WIP model image.
13. You can thus generate 2D images of all the WIP models in the desired orientation by
following step 8 and step 9.
Note: XML-based Setup Sheets generated can only be viewed in the Internet Explorer
web browser. They cannot be viewed using any other web browsers.

3. Rough Mill 1
4. Contour Mill 1
5. Center Drill 2

7. Rough Mill 2

9. Rough Mill 3
Note: Only the JT Viewer component of Glovius is free. The advanced functionalities
within Glovius are licensed modules which need to be subscribed for separately.
8. On executing the Save command, the .JT and .cwview files are generated and saved to the
user-specified folder location. A Windows Explorer window indicating the folder
location of the saved files will be displayed.
Note: This .cwview file contains the same data as the .JT file but in a highly optimized
format which has been specially developed for mobile devices. This is explored in
detail in the next chapter ‘Viewing 3D Models on Mobile Devices’.
9. Simultaneously, the CAMWorksView application also launches and displays the part (in
.JT file format) with toolpath and operations in the graphic area. (If CAMWorksView is
not installed on the system, then this will not happen.)
10. Use the CAMWorksView Desktop Viewer to navigate through the WIP models using
ModelViews tab. Use the Attributes tab to the Operation Parameters of the selected WIP
model. Use the various CAMWorksView Menu commands in order to review the part
model.
CAMWorksView Application
After selecting the Publish CAMWorksView File… from the CAMWorks NC Manager context
menu, the CAMWorksView with the part is displayed. It enables you to review CAMWorks
toolpath operations data along with the 3D models of stock, Work-in-process (WIP) and the
finished part model and to zoom/pan/rotate JT models. The CAMWorksView is divided into
three sections: Top CAMWorksView menu with corresponding Ribbon Bar, Left hand side pane
and Graphics area.
Components tab
Components tab display the true structure of the tree of the selected part file. It will display the
Stock, Finish part and Operations related to the part.
When you will insert another part file in the current file by using the Insert button, then added
file will get list under the first file of the Components tab. The added part file will display the
same structure tree as of initial part file.
When you select any assembly part file, Components tab will display the structure tree for the
assembly and its component parts. The structure tree will display the stock, finished part and
operations related to all the component parts.
Quick-search option is available which will help to find the specific operation.
Annotation tab
Annotation tab specify the added work offset coordinate. When the specific offset is added to
the part, then it will display under this tab.
Quick-search option is available which will help to find the specific offset detail.
Attributes tab
Attribute tab displays the operation parameter related to the selected WIP model. When you will
select any operation in the Model View tab, then the operation parameters will display in the
under the Attribute tab.
Quick-search option is available which will help to find the values of specific operation
parameter.
The stock and WIP models for the .JT file generated on publishing the CAMWorksView file can
be viewed using the CAMWorksView Desktop Application.
1. Open the desired .JT file using the CAMWorksView Desktop Application.
2. In the left hand side pane of the CAMWorksView, click on the Model Views tab.
3. The Model views tab lists the Part name [e.g. CW-Machine
(CAMWorksView_Demo.SLDPRT)], Stock, Finished_Part and Operations in a collapsed
state.
4. Click on the plus sign ( ) next to the Stock, Finished_Part and Operations to expand the
tree.
The list of operations is displayed.
5. Click on the ( ) plus sign next to all the listed operations in order to expand the tree view.
Expanding the listed Operations displays the radio button next to each operation name.
6. Click on the radio button for the Stock in order to select. Observe that the stock will be
displayed in the graphics area.
7. Similarly, click on the radio button for the Finished Part in order to view how the target
finished part will look like.
8. To view the WIP models and corresponding toolpaths for the various operations, click on
the radio button for that operation. The WIP model and toolpath corresponding to the
operation will be displayed in the graphics area.
9. You can zoom/pan/rotate the models being viewed. You can also set the Standard views
from the View Ribbon Bar.
Animation section
5. If you play the animation again by pressing the Play button after pressing the
Stop button, then the animation will once again begin from the start instead of the point
where it was previously stopped.
6. Instead of playing the animation, if you desire to view the stock, finished part or WIP
models at your own pace, you can use the Reverse and Forward buttons button in
the Ribbon bar. Note that if you press the Reverse or Forward button at any point of time
during the animation in progress, the animation will stop automatically and display the
model corresponding to the button pressed.
7. The Reverse button displays the model immediately preceding the model displayed in
the graphics area. For example, if you press this button when the finished part is
displayed, then the stock model will be displayed.
8. The Forward button displays the model immediately succeeding the model displayed
in the graphics area. For example, if you press this button when the finished part is
displayed, then the WIP model and toolpath for the first listed operation will be
displayed.
Emailing snapshots
After examine the toolpath and WIP model, you can send the snapshot
of the specific toolpath by using email.
