Overview
In today's world, as digital technology and the Internet continue to evolve,
cyberspace has become the fifth domain of human activity. In this context,
countries worldwide are continuously pushing for 'digitalization' across various
aspects of life. In Vietnam, digital transformation is a major policy and direction
set by the Party and the State, serving as an opportunity for national
advancement in the new era. The National Digital Transformation Program to
2025, with a vision to 2030, clearly defines Vietnam's vision, objectives, and
scope of digital transformation. Education, especially, is one of the most
prioritized sectors in this upcoming era of national development. In alignment
with Project 06, our group has conducted research on the topic: “Researching
facial recognition technology using Face Recognition integrated with AI and its
practical application in educational management for students at the University
of Technology - Logistics of Public Security” as presented.
Facial recognition systems are computer applications that automatically identify
or verify an individual from a digital image or a video frame from a video
source. Globally, this technology has been implemented in numerous countries
for various purposes. In China, the leading country in utilizing this emerging
technology, one can withdraw cash, check in at airports, and make payments
quickly and automatically using just their face. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, banks
require customers to verify their identity accounts by 2025, allowing individuals
to update their national ID with a chip via facial recognition.
It can be said that this is one of the most successful applications in the field of
computer vision. The topic of facial recognition has gained significant attention,
especially in recent years. But how exactly does this technology work?
III. Project
Understanding how this technology works, our group focused on researching
and testing the application of facial recognition combined with AI to manage
entry and exit activities at the university and to automate student attendance
tracking in classrooms. This technology is practically applied at the University
of Technology - Logistics of Public Security.
Our project aims to achieve three main objectives. First, it enhances campus
security by monitoring and controlling access to the school’s gates and premises,
whether through authorized or unauthorized means. Second, the system
contributes to improving students' self-discipline and adherence to school
regulations by automatically tracking attendance, identifying late arrivals,
missed classes, or absenteeism. Finally, this technology effectively assists
teachers in classroom management, particularly in administrative tasks such as
attendance, monitoring students’ movements in and out of classrooms, and
tracking their activities during class hours. This allows teachers to focus more on
teaching and supporting students' development. The integration contributes to
creating a safer, more professional, and efficient educational environment.
The detailed steps of our research project are as follows: First, AI is used to
detect and extract faces from videos, identifying unique facial features in each
frame. Next, specialized tools are employed to label the extracted samples,
which are then used to train a machine learning model capable of accurately
recognizing and remembering faces. Finally, the trained model is applied to a
sample dataset, demonstrating its ability to effectively identify and distinguish
individuals. This step-by-step process ensures a robust and precise application of
the technology.
You may now direct your attention to the large screen. What you see is a
simulation result using sample subjects. Information is continuously updated,
aggregated, and sent to the server system, where only authorized personnel can
access and view the data.
However, during the research and operation phases, this application encountered
several challenges. The system's accuracy can decrease when individuals wear
masks, obscure their faces, or in less-than-ideal lighting or weather conditions.
Additionally, developing and operating this technology requires a complex
research foundation, specialized knowledge, and significant resources, leading
to high implementation costs. There are also concerns that this technology may
pose threats to privacy and personal freedom.
As students at the university specializing in technical education for the People's
Public Security force, we aim to present a practical, relevant, and highly feasible
research project in this competition, contributing a small part to the digital
transformation efforts within the school and, more broadly, across the nation.
This concludes the presentation of the Techno Quintet team. Thank you, teachers
and classmates, for your attention.
