EXPERIMENT 5

Maximum Power Transfer Theorem.

Aim:
Verify the Maximum Power Transfer theorem in the given circuit diagram.
Apparatus Required:

SL Name of Component/Equipment Specification/Range Quantity

No
1 Regulated DC power supply 0-30V,1A 1
2 Digital Multimeter 15S 1
3 Resistors As per requirement.
Refer Circuit diagram & Observation Table
4 Breadboard - 1
5 Connecting Wire - As per requirements

Theory:
Maximum power is transferred to the load from a network when the load resistance equals the
source or Thevenin resistance as seen from the load (RL= RTh).

Procedure:
1. By using Thevenin’s theorem, find VTH and RTH.
2. Connect the Thevenin’s equivalent circuit, use the values of RL provided in the table
below to measure the current and calculate the corresponding Power.
3. Again, connect the circuit as per the circuit diagram given in figure 10.
4. Connect RL = 1KΩ and measure the current through RL.
5. Repeat Step 4 for given values of RL.
6. Plot the graph for Power vs RL.
