MICROSERVICE DESIGN PATTERN

Microservices architecture is a design style where an application is built as a collection of


loosely coupled, independently deployable services. Each service is responsible for a specific
business function, and they communicate with each other using lightweight protocols, often
HTTP/REST or messaging queues.

When designing microservices, it's important to leverage design patterns that help achieve
scalability, resilience, maintainability, and flexibility. Below are some key microservice design

1. API Gateway Pattern

Order Service and the Payment Service). This duplication is inevitable in a

services using asynchronous communication (e.g., event-driven architecture
with Kafka or RabbitMQ).

own database. If a process fails midway, compensation logic (e.g., using the

Event Sourcing Pattern

The Event Sourcing pattern is an architectural pattern where state changes in an application
are persisted as a sequence of events rather than by directly storing the current state. In this
pattern, each change in the application’s state (e.g., an update to a database) is captured as an
immutable event. These events are stored in an event store, and the current state of the
application is derived by replaying the events in sequence.

Key Concepts:

1.​ Event Store: A specialized database or storage system that keeps a log of all events.
2.​ Immutable Events: Each event is immutable (cannot be changed once stored). It
represents a specific change in the state of the system (e.g., a user placed an order, an
item was added to the inventory).
