Farm Fresh AI – Smart Crop Waste Predictor

for Local Farms

Session: 2022 – 2026

Department of Computer Science

University of Engineering and Technology

Lahore, Pakistan
1. Objective
Farm Fresh AI is an intelligent forecasting and decision-support platform designed to assist
small and medium-scale farmers in maximizing crop efficiency while minimizing waste. By
leveraging historical data, weather patterns, and market trends, the system predicts
surplus production, provides timely alerts, and suggests optimized actions. It promotes
sustainable farming by helping farmers make informed decisions that reduce post-harvest
loss and improve overall yield using modern technologies such as machine learning and
smart analytics.

Primary Objectives:

 Predict surplus or waste-prone produce using machine learning models.

 Offer AI-driven insights to improve crop planning and resource allocation.
 Reduce crop waste through early intervention and better supply-demand alignment.
 Enhance yield consistency by recommending adjustments based on weather and
past trends.
 Support community welfare through streamlined food donation planning.

2. Project Scope
Core Components:

 Yield Forecasting Engine: Estimates expected harvest amounts and detects

overproduction risks.
 Smart Alert System: Notifies farmers of potential waste situations based on live
environmental and market data.
 Market Insight Module: Analyzes real-time demand and pricing from regional
agricultural exchanges.
 Sales & Donation Planner: Guides surplus redirection through sales optimization or
food donations.
 Farm Analytics Dashboard: Visualizes crop health, forecast accuracy, and efficiency
improvements.

Anticipated Challenges:

 Data Scarcity: Limited availability of structured data in local farm settings.

 Farmer Engagement: Encouraging traditional farmers to adopt tech solutions.
 System Accuracy: Prediction quality may vary based on local variables not captured
in data.
 Infrastructure Constraints: Connectivity or device availability may limit access in
rural areas.
Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

 Basic input system for crop type, expected yield, and previous seasons.
 Early warning system for overproduction risks.
 Market trends visualizer with price comparisons.
 Simple decision support for donation or pre-harvest action.

3. Business Justification
Market Gaps and Relevance:

 Post-Harvest Loss: Small farms often lack tools to anticipate or manage excess
produce.
 Resource Mismanagement: Without data-driven planning, overuse of land and inputs
is common.
 Sustainability Needs: Reducing waste aligns with food security goals and
environmental responsibility.
 Modernization of Agriculture: Introducing accessible, low-cost technologies
empowers local farmers to transition toward smart agriculture.

Industry Indicators:

 According to the FAO, over 30% of food produced globally is wasted—much of it

post-harvest.
 Tech-driven agricultural solutions have shown up to 25% improvement in planning
accuracy.
 Governments and NGOs increasingly support tech adoption for smallholder farmers.

Competitor Comparison
Current Alternatives FarmFreshAI Advantage
Traditional Estimation
Lacks predictive accuracy and responsiveness
Methods
Basic Farm Management Do not address crop waste or integrate market/donation
Tools features
Often delayed, generalized, and non-actionable at the farm
Government Yield Reports

Complex AgriTech Platforms Too advanced or costly for smaller, local farm operations

Development Methodology
 The project will follow an Agile development cycle with bi-weekly sprints for
incremental improvements.
 Daily stand-ups will help the team track progress and address roadblocks efficiently.
 A Trello board will be used for sprint planning and task management.
 Regular feedback from local farmers, agricultural extension workers, and NGOs will
be gathered monthly to ensure the product stays relevant and practical.
