Quality Assurance Plan (QAP)

For Fire Protection Contractor

1. Purpose
This Quality Assurance Plan outlines procedures and responsibilities to ensure the design,
installation, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems are completed in
accordance with relevant codes (NFPA, local fire code), standards, and contractual
requirements.

2. Scope
Applies to all fire protection system works including, but not limited to:
- Fire sprinkler systems
- Fire alarm systems
- Fire suppression systems (FM-200, CO2, etc.)
- Hydrant and standpipe systems

3. Responsibilities
- QA/QC Manager: Oversees quality control activities and ensures compliance with the QAP.
- Project Manager: Ensures project milestones and QA requirements are met.
- Site Supervisor: Executes the installation per approved plans and standards.
- Technicians/Installers: Follow approved methods and report discrepancies.
- 3rd Party Inspector (if applicable): Conducts independent inspections/testing.

4. Applicable Standards and Codes


- NFPA Standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 25, 72, etc.)
- Local Fire Code
- Manufacturer’s Installation Guidelines
- Project Specifications
- ISO 9001 (if applicable)

5. Quality Objectives
- 100% compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Zero rework due to quality issues
- On-time project completion
- Customer satisfaction with installed systems

6. Documentation and Records


- Design and Shop Drawings (Approved)
- Material Submittals and Certificates
- Installation Checklists
- Inspection and Testing Reports
- Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Corrective Action Reports

8. Training and Certification


All personnel involved in installation and inspection must be:
- Trained in fire protection system standards
- Certified (if required by code)
- Regularly updated with changes in standards and practices

9. Non-Conformance Management
- All discrepancies shall be documented using an NCR.
- NCRs shall be reviewed, and corrective actions taken within defined timelines.
- Root Cause Analysis shall be done for recurring issues.

10. Audits and Reviews


- Internal audits will be conducted monthly or per project milestone.
- QA meetings will be held weekly to track progress and address issues.

11. Final Acceptance and Handover


- Ensure all systems are tested and functioning.
- Submit As-Built drawings, Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
- Provide training to the client or end-user on system operation.
- Obtain Certificate of Final Acceptance from Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
