are all ready for our oral reading
activity. I will read the story aloud,
and you will read along with me.
Make sure to follow the words
carefully as we read together.
But first, let’s remember our oral
reading standards:
1. Sit properly with your feet flat on
the floor.
2. Follow along with your eyes as we
read.
3. Read clearly and at a steady pace.
4. Use the correct pronunciation of
words.
5. Read with expression to bring the
story to life.
Alright! Now that we are ready, let’s
begin.
The title of the story is ‘The Proud
Rose”.
The Proud Rose
Once upon a time there was a rose (pupils read along with
who was very proud of her beautiful the teacher)
looks. Her only disappointment was
that she grew next to an ugly
cactus. Every day, the rose would
insult the cactus on his looks while
the cactus stayed quiet. All the other
plants in the garden tried to make
the rose see sense, but she was too
swayed by her own good looks.
One summer, the well present in the
garden grew dry and there was no
water for the plants. The rose began
to wilt. She saw a sparrow dip her
beak into the cactus for some water.
Though ashamed, she asked the
cactus if she too could have some
water. The kind cactus readily
agreed and they both got through
the tough summer as friends.
2. Discussion Did you like the story class? Yes, ma’am.
That's good to hear.
Now, let us go back to our motive
questions. I have here a graphic
organizer that we will be filling in.
Every story has important parts that
help us understand it better.
First, we have the characters.
Characters are the people, animals,
or things in a story. They are the
ones who do actions. Now let’s
answer the question.
1. Who are the characters in the The Proud Rose, the
story? Cactus, the Sparrow.
Very good! Next, we have the
setting. The setting tells us where
and when the story happens.
Knowing the setting helps us
imagine what’s going on.
2. Where does the story happen? In a garden.
Now, let’s talk about the events.
Events are the things that happen in
a story, from beginning to end.
These help us understand what the
story is about.
3. At the beginning of the story, how She was proud and looked
did the rose feel about herself? down on the Cactus.
4. What problem did the rose face She had no water and
when the weather became very hot? started to wilt.
5. How did the cactus help the rose The cactus gave her
