Can we do all of the changes in one day? No, change must be gradual.
Too much change all at once would result in much frustration for the workers in our plant. For this reason,
George suggests that only 4 of the seven improvements are implemented during day 2.
These are,
Rearrange the layout. Each workstation will now be situated right near the workstation that precedes it.
Open up the communication. Some operators will be allowed to advise each other of defects and suggest
improvements on the fly. In a sense, everybody shares the duties of quality assurance.
Reduce the set up time. Both fixtures will be now be available to measure the lengths of the white and the green
planes. The need for a changeover has been eliminated.
In the next section, we return to our Lego simulation for our second day of work.
It is hoped that these improvements will bring the Sky View Airplane Company closer to their goal of being able to
guarantee their customer deliveries of 24 airplanes per day.
