1. Introduction
Transistors are semiconductor devices that can act as switches or amplifiers. In this micro
project, a BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor) is used as a switching component to control an
LED. When used in saturation and cut-off modes, BJTs function effectively as switches.
2. Objective
To design and implement a basic circuit using a BJT transistor to turn an LED ON and OFF,
demonstrating its switching capability.
3. Components Required
- NPN BJT (e.g., BC547 or 2N2222) – 1
- LED – 1
4. Circuit Diagram
Below is the circuit diagram illustrating the use of a BJT to switch an LED ON and OFF.
5. Working Principle
When a small current flows into the base of the NPN transistor (via a 1kΩ resistor), the
transistor turns ON, allowing current to flow from collector to emitter. This allows the LED
connected in series with a 330Ω resistor to light up. When the base current is removed, the
transistor turns OFF and the LED goes out. This demonstrates how a BJT can act as an
electronic switch.
6. Observations
- Transistor remains OFF (LED is OFF) when no base signal is applied.
7. Conclusion
This project successfully demonstrates the use of a BJT transistor as a switching component
in an electronic circuit. It shows how a small input current at the base can control a larger
current at the collector, thus acting as an effective switch.
8. Applications
