PROJECT SYNOPSIS

ON
STUDENT PERFORMANCE PREDICTION SYSTEM
Submitted in the fulfillment for the award of the degree of

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER
APPLICATIONS
1. Objective

To design and develop a system capable of predicting the academic performance of

students using machine learning techniques, allowing educators to identify at-risk
students and take proactive measures to improve their performance.

2. Problem Statement

Many educational institutions face challenges in identifying students who may

underperform due to a variety of factors, including attendance, engagement,
socioeconomic background, and prior academic records. A lack of early
intervention mechanisms often results in decreased academic success rates.

3. Scope of the Project

This project aims to:

 Analyze various factors influencing student performance, such as

attendance, grades, participation, and demographic details.
 Use machine learning algorithms to predict outcomes like grade
performance, dropout risks, or subject-specific difficulties.
 Provide actionable insights to educators for targeted interventions.

4. Modules

1. User Management:
o Role-based access for students, teachers, and admins.
2. Data Management:
o Integration with attendance and grade systems.
3. Prediction Model:
o ML-based prediction engine.
4. Visualization:
o Charts and graphs to display insights.

5. Methodology

1. Data Collection:
o Gather historical academic data, attendance records, and other
relevant metrics from educational institutions.
o Preprocess the data to ensure its quality and usability.
2. Algorithm Selection:
o Implement machine learning algorithms such as Decision Trees,
Random Forest, or Neural Networks for prediction.
o Compare results to determine the most accurate model.
3. System Development:
o Develop a web-based or standalone application with an intuitive user
interface for teachers and administrators.
o Include visualization tools like graphs and reports for performance
insights.
4. Testing and Deployment:
o Test the system using real-world data to validate accuracy.
o Deploy the system for institutional use.

6. Expected Outcomes

 An efficient prediction system capable of identifying students at risk of

underperformance.
 Improved teacher-student interactions through targeted interventions.
 Enhanced academic success rates and reduced dropout rates.

7. Tools and Technologies

 Programming Language: Python

 Frameworks: Scikit-learn, TensorFlow
 Database: MySQL/PostgreSQL
 Platform: Web-based (Django/Flask)
 Visualization Tools: Matplotlib, Seaborn

8. Future Scope

The system can be enhanced by:

 Incorporating natural language processing (NLP) to analyze feedback and

sentiment from students and teachers.
 Expanding the dataset to include real-time data from IoT-enabled
classrooms.
 Adapting the model for use in online learning environments.

9. Conclusion

The Student Performance Prediction System provides an innovative way to

leverage technology in education, empowering educators to make informed
decisions that positively impact student success.
