Modes of Operation – Revision-4

-- DEFINITIONS --

Modes :
 Card Reader Mode:
 The doors are closed and secure. Entry is accomplished by using a 'Valid Access' or by
specific 'Request to Enter' devices. Egress is accomplished by using a 'Valid Access', a
specific 'Request to Exit' device or the doors have no exit restrictions.
 Free Access Mode:
 The doors are unlocked for an extended period of time through the access system and
entry or egress is not restricted.
 Note: please refer to each location to confirm if the specific door should operate in this
mode.
 Patient Wandering/Infant Abduction (PW/IA) Mode:
 A mode generated by a separate system used in conjunction with the access system to
lock specific doors upon sensing the proximity of special tags. If engaged, the PW/IA
Mode will force the access system from Free Access Mode to Card Reader Mode for the
duration. This mode can also alter the access system's response to various input signals
(door status, rex, etc...)
 Note: hardware and mode remains the same for both PW an IA though they integrate
with different IMIT systems. Refer to system drawings to clarify which integration is
required at each location.
 Fire Alarm Mode:
 Certain devices will be wired to either fail-safe (unlocked) or fail-secure (locked) upon a
signal from the fire alarm system. The rest of the door devices will keep operating in the
mode set by the Access/PW/IA systems.
 Operator Modes:
 The door operators can be set to different operational modes by using one of the
following as an ADO switch: the standard operator mounted toggle switch, a wall
mounted toggle switch (CM-195/31) or a wall mounted keyswitch (CM-1192-76242).
An operator should have only one of these.
 The operator modes are as follows:
 OFF – the operator ignores any 'Open' signal and acts as a door closer
 Hold Open – the operator opens the door and stays in that mode while the switch is
activated. (Please note that the ADO switch might not unlock the electrified
hardware directly)
 Automatic – the operator opens the door for a per-determined period of time upon
receiving an 'Open' signal from a wall mounted switch or a signal from the access
system.

Devices:
 Blue Pull Station:
 An emergency switching device typically installed in the egress path of a door meant to
directly cut power to fail safe locks (i.e. a maglock) in case of emergency. Once pulled,
the device has to be manually reset at the door.
 Delayed Maglock:
 A fail safe lock with built-in delay and control electronics. Please note: this device has

multiple configurations available, please confirm which one the AHJ has approved.
 The maglock and armature assembly is designed in a way where the door can be opened
up to 1” while keeping it secure. A proximity sensor between the door and maglock will
trigger a 15 second delay (which includes a 0 to 3 second nuisance delay if allowed)
after which the maglock will release and remain that way until reset. An internal alarm
will sound locally during this 15 second period and a monitor output will toggle at the
beginning of the 15 second delay and stay that way until the maglock is reset. This
maglock can also be triggered by an exit device switch in the pushpad or the trim.
 The maglock can be remotely bypassed by a contact from the access system.
 The maglock can be remotely or locally reset after it has been released.
 The maglock's red and green LED's will display it's current status.
 Green – door closed and secure
 Red – door released and waiting for reset
 Red & Green – unlock sequence is active
 both off – bypassed or powered down
 Door Alarm:
 A local audio device used to indicate a trouble/alarm condition at a door.
 Door Forced Alarm:
 A signal generated by the access system if a door status signal shows the door is opened
without having acknowledged a prior valid access or rex signal. This alarm can be used
to turn on a local sounder (door alarm) at the door until the alarm has been cleared.
 Door Held Alarm:
 A signal generated by the access system if a door status signal shows the door has been
kept opened past a certain time limit. This alarm can be used to turn on a local sounder
(door alarm) at the door until the alarm has been cleared.
 Door Open Alarm:
 A signal generated by the access system if a door status signal shows the door is open.
This alarm can be used to turn on a local sounder (door alarm) at the door until the alarm
has been cleared.
 Door Status:
 A signal to the access system indicating that the door is open or closed. The signal can
come from a door position switch and/or a lock latch bolt monitor.
 Fail Safe Lock:
 A device that secures the door when power is applied. When power is removed, entry or
egress through the door is not restricted.
 Fail Secure Lock:
 A device that secures the door when power is removed. Depending on the device, entry
and/or egress can be restricted; a mortise lock can restrict entry to the use of a key but
have egress enabled mechanically by turning the handle.
 Keyswitch:
 ADO:
 A dual alternate action keyswitch with 2 x dual colour LED's
 Turning CCW will toggle the operator between the 'Off' mode and either 'Hold
Open' or 'Auto' modes. If the 'Off' mode is selected, both LED's will be red.
 Turning CW will toggle the operator between the 'Hold Open' or 'Auto' modes (as
long as the CCW switch is not set to 'Off' mode).
 If set to 'Auto' mode, the left LED will be green (other one is off).

Modes of Operation – Revision-4

 If set to 'Hold Open' mode, the right LED will be green (other one is off)
 Maglock:
 A single action momentary keyswitch with 1 x dual colour LED.
 If the maglock power is turned off, the keyswitch LED is off.
 If the maglock power is turned on, the keyswitch LED will be red and the maglock
is turned on.
 If the maglock power is turned on and the keyswitch is turned, the LED will be
green and the maglock is turned off.
 Latch Bolt Monitor:
 A switch in an electric strike, a panic bar or an electrified lock that indicates if the lock's
latch is extended or retracted.
 Maglock:
 A fail safe lock.
 If power is applied, the LED on the maglock will be red, otherwise the LED is off.
 Request To Enter (RTE):
 A signal to the access system used to temporarily shunt the door status input and, if
required, unlock the door. The signal can originate from a remote push button switch, an
intercom master's unlock switch ( not shown on drawings) or any other remote means to
unlock a door.
 Request To Exit (REX):
 A signal to the access system used to temporarily shunt the door status input and, if
required, unlock the door. The signal can originate from a switch in an exit device's push
pad, one of the handles of an electrified lock, a latch bolt monitor switch of an electric
strike or an exit motion device.
 Valid Access:
 A signal to the access system from a card reader, a keypad or 'Request to Enter' device
that will temporarily unlock a door and shunt the door monitoring device's.

Level 3: (applies to groups: 105A)
- Card Reader Mode:
 The door is closed and latched, the door status is monitored, the maglock is powered.
 To enter or exit, a valid access via one of the card reader and pressing one of the push
buttons will remove power from the maglock and shunt the door status for the
programmed unlock time. The door can now be opened by using a key in the lockset to
retract both rods and the latch.
 To enter or exit, one of the maglock keyswitches will remove power from the maglock
while turned and the lockset key can be used simultaneously to retract the rods and lock
latch to open the door. This will cause a door forced alarm.
 Free Access Mode:
 The door is closed and latched, the door status is bypassed and the maglock power is off.
To enter or exit, the door can be opened by using a key in the lockset to retract both rods
and the latch.

Mode AK:
Level 2: (applies to groups: 106, 106A)
 The door is closed. The outside trim is locked and the inside trim is always unlocked. The
electric strike is unlocked. The annunciator is off. The inside 'Push to Lock' button LED's
are green. The outside and inside wave buttons are enabled. The CX-33 is in stand-by mode.
 To enter or exit, using a wave button will trigger the operator to open the door for the
operator pre-programmed time. The outside trim can be used to manually open the door
(strike is unlocked). The inside trim can be always be used to manually open the door.
 Pressing the 'Push to Lock' button while the door is closed will toggle the CX-33 to lock
mode which disables the outside wave buttons, locks the electric strike, turns on the
annunciator and turns the 'Push to Lock' LED's red. The CX-33 now monitors the door
contact.
 The door stays locked until the CX-33 sees the door contact open. This can be done by
using a key on the outside trim and opening the door, turning the inside trim and opening
the door or using the inside wave buttons to unlock and open the door. Once the door has
opened, the CX-33 reverts to stand-by mode.
 Please note: the outside key can be used to release the outside trim for an extended period
of time. If this is done, there is nothing keeping someone from opening the door from the
outside when the strike is locked.
 Note: some of the door operators have a switch that will turn the AC power on/off. If set to
off, the operator will act as a door closer only.
 Note: for the operator to function, the ADO switch (integral rocker switch or wall mounted

 Power to the latch retraction exit devices is interrupted until the fire alarm condition is
rectified. The operator acts like a door closer.
 Note: for the operator to function, the ADO keyswitch must be in the 'Auto' position. If
'Off', the operator will not open the doors. If 'Hold Open', the operator will open the door
and keep it that way unless the access system is in 'Card Reader Mode' (the ADO switch
does not automatically retract the exit device rods).

- Card Reader Mode:
 The doors are closed and latched, the reader side maglock is powered, the door status is
monitored, the exit wave buttons are enabled and the entry wave buttons are disabled.
 To enter, a valid access via the card reader will retract the exit device rods, power down
the entry maglock, enable the entry wave buttons and shunt the door status for the
programmed unlock time. A door can now be pushed open or, by using a wave button,
the operator will open both doors.
 To enter, the entry maglock keyswitch will power down the entry maglock while turned
then the exit device push pad will retract the rod and the door can be pushed open. This
will trigger a door forced alarm.
 To exit, the exit device push pad will retract the rod and send a rex signal to the access
system to shunt the door status while the door is opened.
 To exit, the exit wave buttons can be used to trigger the operator which will retract both
exit device rods, power down the entry maglock and open both doors. The egress bar
will send a rex signal to the access system to shunt the door status.
 Free Access Mode:
 The doors are closed but the exit device rods are retracted, the entry maglock is powered
down, all wave buttons are enabled and the door status is shunted for the duration.
