Summative on Linear Equations
Summative on Linear Equations
1. A. Sketch the following linear systems and write down the coordinates of their point of
intersection without the use of technology. Use the provided Cartesian plane [2]
1. B. Solve the following systems algebraically and graphically. You may choose between solving
the systems by substitution or elimination [2]
2. Two social events have been organized by a local scout group to raise funds for a well in Tanzania.
During the first night, 25 children and 20 adults attended and the revenue for that evening was
£150.00. On the second night there were 30 children and 22 adults, with revenues of £170. How
much did each adult pay to attend this social event, assuming that the ticket prices were the same
for both events. [4]
3. Software engineers are designing a self-serve checkout system for a supermarket. They notice that
the traffic through the store during the day is described by the function:
C=−t(t−12)
where CC is the number of customers and t is the number of hours after the store opens.
To meet the peak demand, the engineers allow for an extra checkout machine to automatically
turn on when the number of customers first reaches 27 people, and to automatically turn off when
it next falls below 27 people.
a) Find the times t when the number of customers is equal to 27 people. [2]
b) Hence, after how many hours will the extra checkout machine turn on after opening? [2]
c) How many hours will the extra machine be on for? [3]
4.
4.a. Write down the missing step in the following table up to row 6 [2]
4.b.Describe the two pattern in table for the no of triangle (T) [2]
