STRATEGY PLAN
STEP 1: Familiarizing yourself with the UGC-NET exam pattern is an essential first step in
preparing effectively for the examination. Understanding the structure of the exam, the types
of questions, and the time allocated for each section will help you plan your study strategy.
Here's how you can go about it:
• Visit the Official Website: Go to the official UGC-NET website or the NTA website to
access the latest and accurate information about the exam pattern. Ensure you are
looking at the most recent information, as exam patterns can change over time
• Download the Syllabus: Download the official syllabus for the Psychology subject
paper. The syllabus will provide you with a comprehensive list of topics that you need
to cover for the exam.
• Understand the Papers: UGC-NET usually consists of two papers: Paper-I (General
Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude) and Paper-II (Subject Paper). Understand
the purpose and content of each paper:
- Paper-I assesses your teaching and research aptitude, logical reasoning,
communication skills, and more.
- Paper-II is specific to the subject you are appearing for (Psychology in this case) and
tests your knowledge in that subject.
• Exam Format: Take note of the following aspects of the exam format:
• Marking Scheme: Understand the marking scheme, such as the marks awarded for
correct answers, negative marking (if applicable), and the importance of managing time
effectively.
• Previous Year Papers: To get a practical sense of the exam pattern, go through
previous years' question papers for the Psychology subject. This will give you insight
into the types of questions asked and the distribution of topics.
STEP 2: Establishing a baseline is a crucial step in your UGC-NET Psychology exam
preparation. This involves assessing your current knowledge, strengths, and areas that need
improvement. Here's how you can go about it:
• Self-Assessment Test: Take a mock test that covers a broad range of topics from
the syllabus. This will help you understand your current level of knowledge and
identify areas where you are strong and areas where you need improvement.
• Analyze Your Performance: After taking the test, carefully analyze your
performance. Identify the topics where you answered correctly and the topics where
you struggled. This will give you insights into your strengths and weaknesses.
• Identify Knowledge Gaps: Based on your performance analysis, create a list of
topics or concepts that you found challenging or unfamiliar. These are your
knowledge gaps that you'll need to address during your preparation.
• Review Mistakes: Review the questions you got wrong or were unsure about.
Understand the reasons for your mistakes. Did you misinterpret the question, lack
conceptual clarity, or make careless errors? This analysis will guide your focused
study.
• Note Your Confidence: Rate your confidence level on different topics. This will
give you an idea of which areas you feel comfortable with and which areas need
more attention.
• Set a Baseline Score: Based on your performance, set a baseline score for yourself.
This is the score you aim to improve upon through your preparation. Also look at
previous year cut offs to set a base line.

• Document Your Findings: Maintain a record of your self-assessment, including
the topics you found challenging and the areas you're confident about. This will
serve as a reference as you progress in your preparation.
STEP 3: Collecting the right study material is crucial for your UGC-NET Psychology exam
preparation. Here's how you can go about it:
• Recommended Books: Look for recommended textbooks and reference materials
specifically designed for UGC-NET Psychology preparation. These books often cover
the syllabus comprehensively and include practice questions.
• Online Resources: There are various online platforms that offer study materials, video
lectures, and practice tests for UGC-NET Psychology. Websites, YouTube channels,
and educational apps can be valuable resources.
• Previous Year Papers: Collect previous years' UGC-NET Psychology question papers.
Analyzing these papers will give you an idea of the types of questions asked and the
level of difficulty.
• Mock Tests: Find mock test series specifically designed for UGC-NET Psychology.
Regularly taking mock tests will help you get accustomed to the exam pattern and
improve your time management skills.
• Notes and Handouts: If you have access to reliable notes or handouts from your college
or coaching institute, these can be helpful for quick revision. Books from Power Within
and notes from UPS education
• Join Study Groups: Connect with fellow UGC-NET aspirants or join online study
groups. Sharing study materials, discussing concepts, and solving doubts collectively
can enhance your preparation. TDP group for NET and M.phil, Hafsa Mallik NET
preparation groups on telegram
• Coaching Institutes: If feasible, consider joining a reputable coaching institute that
offers specialized UGC-NET Psychology preparation. They often provide structured
guidance, study material, and expert support. UPS education, Psysium, Powerwithin
1. Plan your time: Always start with easy questions and then move to attempt tough
questions. Solving easy questions first reinforces your brain and hard questions can be dealt
calmly.
3. Avoid silly errors: On the day of the exam, read the question and options carefully. Focus
carefully on the words like, except, not, and always. Reread the question again before
attempting, you will have sufficient time. In OMR responses, be careful while marking the
answer.
4. Eliminate the options: Remove all the possible wrong answers, and increase the
probability of the right answer.
5. Take Calculative Risk: Be spontaneous while calculating the risk you should take.
Keeping the previous cut-off in mind is important but you should make a decision of how
many questions to attempt according to the level of difficulty of the paper.
Bonus Tips
4. Don’t compromise on your mental health. Take proper sleep and a healthy diet.
5. Don’t run behind multiple resources or books. Keep it limited and keep revising and
practising.
1. Solve a previous year paper and evaluate your score in comparison with the cutoffs.
Evaluate the gap and identify the areas which need more work.
2. Go through the entire theory as much as you can with focus on identified areas
3. Start solving question papers. Attempt at least 10. Note down information and mcqs
that you don't know. Read up on the ones that you don't know
4. In the last days, go though the notes made from the mcqs. This must be a big register
by now if done properly.
5. During exams: Calculation Strategy for every question
