How I work on computer

We are living today in a life, where different technologies, devices, gadgets, software and application can make our
life and work easy and help us to live better live, to do our work, to study and to learn. I remember when I studied at
school, if someone in the class had calculator and if he used it to solve tasks on mathematics, it was something that
others also dreamt to have. When we saw the first telephones with buttons and screens, and they had calculators,
cameras, calendars, alarm clocks, it was something that we couldn’t even imagine before. We had classes on
informatics but we learned it without computers and we never saw computer during the lessons. When I first bought
my computer, I was very glad that I would be able to learn and use it. It was big, it had metallic computer case,
monitor, and I also bough printer and scanner. I thought that it was enough to buy computer and to use it but I didn’t
know that I had to install operating system, antivirus software and other applications. Without operating system
computer doesn’t work and I asked my friend to install “Windows” operating system and he brought disk and
inserted disk and started to install “Windows”. Today many computers use “Windows” operating system which was
created by “Microsoft” company. But Apple computers use their “Mac OS” system and some others use “Lunix”
operating system. “Microsoft” company was established by Bill Gates and “Apple” was established by Steve Jobs,
and these companies became famous for their software and devices. Another famous and often used software of
Microsoft company is “Microsoft office” which includes different applications. Everyone who learns computer they
first learn how to turn on and turn off the computer, how and where to connect power cables, VGA/HDMI cables,
how to connect keyboards, mouses, earphones. Then they learn when and how to click with mouse. Microsoft
office applications are used everywhere and very often. They include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
Power point, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft One Drive and others. You may download these applications from
internet and install but you must pay for their license (лицензии). Or you may buy installing disks and install from
the disk. You choose the “start” from the desktop and find Microsoft Word, or you may search. Then Ms Word is
opened and you will have white electronic “paper” on your screen. You start typing the text. Your keyboard may
have different alphabets and symbols, they may be Russian, English, Arabic and other alphabets. You may copy and
paste the texts, pictures. If you want to change the alphabet you must press “shift” button with “alt” button.
Shift+Alt. You may type big (uppercase) and small (lowercase) letters(буквы). Also, you may choose different
fonts, colors and styles. You may increase and decrease the font. You may insert pictures, tables(таблицы), figures
and many other objects. MS Word is needed for writing texts, documents. You may print the documents and for this
you must choose “File” then “print” or press “Ctrl+P”. Then you will choose how many copies and which pages
you want to print and click on “print”. You need printer to print the documents and first you connect printer to
socket with power cable and with USB cable, with Network cable or if you have wireless printer then with Wi-Fi
you connect printer to computer. But printers and scanners also don’t work without software which should be
installed on computer. This software is called “driver”. You may download drivers from internet or install it from
the disk. Your printer must have papers and ink (краса, чернила). Scanner allows to scan papers, documents,
books and save them in electronic format. You must put the document under that scanner and them open scanning
software on your laptop and click on “scan” button. Then the file will be saved in the folders and you may send
these files by email or unload to cloud. You need to click on “save” button to save the document. You may save
files on desktops, in folders, in USB disk or you may save on clouds. Another useful application is Ms Excel. It is
an electronic table (электронная таблица) and you may manage the data in these table, you may calculate big and
much data in it. All these documents and files you may send by email. MS Outlook application is the email which
allows to send messages, files to other people. You need to sign up and create email and then you enter username
and password to have access to your email. Ms Power point allows to prepare presentations and to insert pictures,
texts, animations and different other styles. All these applications can be installed on laptops, tablets and on some
telephones also. Microsoft One Drive is the cloud storage which allows to save files on “cloud”. Cloud is the server
which has large memory and user may have access to this service from anywhere and from other devices with his
username and password. You may upload, open, see, change, send, download, share all the files which you keep on
your cloud. You may give access to other people to your cloud also. There are other companies which also have
similar(схожие) software. Google is also famous company and it also has “Google Docs”, “Google Sheets”,
“Google Drive”, “Google Photo” and many other useful software. But you don’t need to install this software on
your device. You may just open browser, sign up and sign in with your username and password and use all your
data. When you lose your phone, laptop or if they are broken, you don’t loose your data. All the information and
files are stored in your Google Drive and you may restore the access. There is other useful software, Skype, Zoom,
Microsoft Teams which allow to make audio and video calls, to organize meeting, online lessons, conferences. You
may use them on phone, on tables, on laptops. You send the link to meeting, conference and lesson to others and
they will have access when they click and open the link. You may share your screen and show to others your screen
and explain your lessons, documents. Internet is today used by everyone on the earth. It is a large Worldwide web
which connects all the world. It is connected with cables, wires or with satellite signals. Your device may be
connected to internet with Wi-Fi, with antenna or with cables. Software and application allow to send and to receive
data, information by internet. You need also browser which allows you to have access to other web-sites and to
other data. Web-Site is the window that opens access to data and information that are saved and stored on other
servers or devices. Servers are large storage which has very very much memory. The famous and wide used browser
was Internet Explorer, which was created by Microsoft. But today there are different browsers, often used Google
Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Edge and others. Browser is also software and it can be installed on laptop, tables
and on phones. You my search information and browser, open emails, have access to websites, upload and
download documents, files. There is harmful software also which we call “viruses”. Viruses are often used to steal
(украсть) information, to delete data or often to steal money from bank accounts. To keep your information from
viruses there are antivirus software and they are installed and always updated. Antivirus analyzes harmful
information and displays message that harmful virus is found. Software may be installed on devises or you may use
them without installing but from web browser. If your device doesn’t have much memory then it is better for you to
use browser, it does not use your memory because all the data is not stored on your device’s memory.
