Abstract
In the era of digital streaming, data visualization plays a crucial role in
understanding user engagement and content performance. This study
presents the development of an Amazon Prime Dashboard using Power BI,
aiming to provide comprehensive insights into subscriber trends, content
analysis, and revenue patterns. The dashboard integrates and visualizes
data related to user demographics, watch history, subscription growth, and
content popularity. By leveraging Power BI’s interactive charts, filters, and
drill-down capabilities, the dashboard enhances decision-making for
content recommendations and business strategies. The study highlights the
ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process, data modeling techniques, and
visualization methods employed in building the dashboard. The findings
demonstrate how business intelligence (BI) tools can optimize data-driven
decisions in the streaming industry, offering a scalable solution for
performance analysis. This research contributes to the field of data
analytics and visualization, showcasing the potential of Power BI in media
and entertainment analytics.
INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this study is to develop an Amazon Prime Dashboard using
Power BI to analyze and visualize key performance metrics related to
content streaming, user engagement, and subscription trends. This project
aims to leverage data visualization techniques to provide insights into
watch time, genre popularity, regional preferences, and user demographics.
The research will focus on demonstrating the efficiency of Power BI's
interactive dashboards in enhancing decision-making for content strategy
and business growth within the streaming industry.
1. Data Collection
The dataset for the Amazon Prime dashboard was collected from various
sources, including publicly available data repositories, API extractions, and
web scraping techniques. The primary data sources included:
Amazon Prime’s official dataset (if available)
IMDb movie and TV show ratings
User reviews and engagement statistics
Subscription and regional availability data
2. Data Preprocessing
Before visualizing the data in Power BI, the following preprocessing steps
were carried out:
Data Cleaning: Removing duplicates, handling missing values, and
standardizing formats.
Data Transformation: Converting raw data into structured tables
suitable for Power BI.
Data Integration: Merging multiple datasets to create a unified
dataset for analysis.
Data Enrichment: Adding new calculated fields such as watch time
trends, popularity scores, and content ratings.
3. Database Management
The structured dataset was stored in SQL Server or Excel files, ensuring
compatibility with Power BI. Database management involved:
Creating relational tables and establishing relationships.
Indexing and optimizing queries for efficient data retrieval.
Ensuring data integrity and security.
4. Dashboard Development in Power BI
Power BI was used to design an interactive and visually appealing
dashboard. The key steps included:
Data Importing: Connecting Power BI to the cleaned dataset.
Data Modeling: Defining relationships and hierarchies for better
analysis.
Visualization Creation: Designing various visual elements such as:
o Bar charts for subscription trends.
o Pie charts for genre distribution.
o Line graphs for user engagement over time.
o Maps to display regional availability.
DAX Calculations: Implementing Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
to compute insights like total watch hours and average ratings.
Filters and Slicers: Enabling dynamic filtering for user interaction.
5. Testing and Validation
To ensure the dashboard’s accuracy and usability, thorough testing was
conducted:
CONCLUSION
The Amazon Prime Dashboard using Power BI provides an insightful and
interactive visualization of key performance metrics related to Amazon
Prime’s content library, user engagement, and subscription trends. By
leveraging Power BI’s advanced data visualization capabilities, the
dashboard enables effective decision-making through real-time analytics,
data-driven insights, and trend identification.
This mini-project highlights the importance of business intelligence tools in
analyzing streaming service performance, showcasing Power BI’s efficiency
in handling large datasets, creating dynamic reports, and integrating
multiple data sources. Through this study, it is evident that such
dashboards can assist businesses in understanding user preferences,
optimizing content strategies, and enhancing the overall customer
experience.
Future improvements can include predictive analytics, AI-driven
recommendations, and integration with other datasets to provide deeper
insights into market trends. Overall, this research demonstrates the
significance of data visualization in the streaming industry and how Power
BI empowers businesses to make informed decisions.
