Week 11 and 12
Week 11 and 12
WEEKLY REFLECTIONS
Use the prompts given below to present your weekly reflections about the community
engagement experience and your major learnings and insights from the work done.
1. What did you do?
Week 11
In this week’s community service, I conducted two activities for the children. The first one
was Jenga with action cards, it was for children aging between 11 and 16. This activity was
conducted to improve their eye hand coordination and to enhance their fine motor skills. The
second activity was for younger children, it was a relay race with a twist where the children
had to perform various activities within the race.
Week 12
For this week’s community service, I taught kids of grade 4th and made them do some fun
activities. For the first half of the session I taught them mathematics, particularly the concept
of fraction. In order to promote a holistic development, in the second half games and
activities were played. I made them play two activities; dumb charades followed by a
coloring activity.
Week 11
Through this experience, I was able to improve my communication and flexibility skills. I had
to make sudden modifications to the instructions, maintain group motivation, and ensure the
activities were inclusive as well as fun for everyone. This helped me in enhancing my
leadership skills as well, as I had to manage kids from different age groups and make sure that
they are not creating a chaos.
Week 12
This week’s community service made me realize that every child has their own pace at which
they learn and grow. In the mathematics session, there was one child who already knew
everything that I taught, there was one girl whom I explained the concept twice and she
understood it, then there was another girl who was unable to grasp the concept at all. For all
these three kids, I had to utilize a different teaching strategy.
3. One major learning from today’s community service work
Week 11
One of my major learnings in this week’s community service was that I realized how much
children liked the element of surprise. For both the activities, we had some or the other twist
planned which made the game more exciting. It was clearly visible on the children’s faces as well
as some of them expressed that they liked twists and actions in between the game and it made the
activities much more fun and engaging.
Week 12
I have been teaching in this organization for almost 10 weeks and I have noticed that as the
classes are about to end, the children start getting restless and stop paying attention to what is
being taught. But in this week, I observed that all the children were sitting and quietly
coloring the sheets I gave them without losing any attention. This made me realize that
children learn in a more efficient manner when the learning is varied and engaging.
Week 11
This learning was important to me as it made me understand the importance of practical learning
or learning beyond the traditional structures. It also made me understand how small and creative
changes in learning methods can help the children to engage and interact more in classes and
keeps them interested. Based on this, I can design my future sessions accordingly.
Week 12
This learning is important to me as it helped me in understanding how to create and maintain a
balance within the classes. By merging academics with activities, it can be an effective way to
retain the attention of children, especially the younger kids. Through this learning, I can design
my future sessions in such a way so that the children do not get distracted and are fully engaged.
Week 11
In my CIA, I have mentioned of implementing these activities on the kids to improve their gross
motor skills, fine motor skills, and eye hand coordination, and I felt very sure and confident of the
implementation part. But when I actually conducted these activities, I realized how easy it was to
write it in an assignment and how challenging it is to do it in real setting.
Week 12
One thing that I observed was the impact of these small activities like coloring or some
games can be very huge on these kids. They were genuinely very happy to see the coloring
sheets and asked me to bring it again the next time as well.
