Topic: Residence
Description of Activities:
Following are the points studied during the visit –
The residence was designed by Ar. UpendraPandit. The architect has designed this house
according to the needs and requirements of the family as a penthouse.
The visit was carried out to identify the conceptualized design.
Here they studied about different spaces, activities and circulation of the same in groups.
The residence is divided into 2 storeyed i.e. living room, dinning, kitchen, bedroom, washroom
& children room at the ground floor, and a relaxing or hobby room and master bedroom is
provided at first floor.

The living room is designed such that there is a terrace attached which is facing towards the
west.

There are openings in the east side wall for ventilation and morning light.There is no partition
between the kitchen and dining.The kitchen cooking platform facing the dining space separated
by a small partition which makes communication easy and connects the most habited spaces in
home.

The west side terrace celebrates the memories of wada culture with a jhula, the highlighted
feature is the decorative wooden frame and an exposed brick wall.
The students were asked to take the measurement of the furniture along with the spaces to
understand anthropometry. The segregation of space and the details according to the space was
also discussed.

Outcome: -
After the visit students get the knowledge about what is the difference between a normal house
and a well designed house. How the normal day to day activities can affect the design. Also they
understand the effect and importance of light and ventilation in a residence, and integration of
semi open and open space to the building.

Description of Activities:
Following are the points studied during the visit –
The residence was designed by Ar. Vivek Gupta Around 20 Years ago. The visit was carried out
to identify the different requirements of a residence and to understand the activities related with
the different spaces.
Here they studied about different spaces, activities and circulation of the same.

The students were divided into groups and each group was asked to do sketches and take
photographs individually. They were also asked to take the measurement of the furniture along

with the spaces to understand anthropometry. The segregation of space and the details according
to the space was also discussed.
The house has various compartments i.e. Living Room, Dining, Kitchen, Store, Guest bedroom
at the ground floor and 2 bedrooms, Pooja room, and a balcony provided at the first floor.

The kitchen was at the eastern part and there is no partition between the dining and kitchen. It
also has a store room near it.
At the side of dining they had provided a small courtyard. At the day time natural light was
provided through the roof at the first floor and the same light passes throughout the consulting
room, they had provided glass block flooring which also has bulbs in it so that it could provide
light at night at the basement as well as for the courtyard at ground floor.

Outcome:
Here students were exposed to how to design on a contour site and how levels play an important
role in design. Also they get acquainted with knowledge of different color schemes, how it plays
an important role in the interior of residence.
