Lesson 6:

Quality Management
by: Mark Jasper S. Ortiz
Total Quality
Management
TQM is considered a customer-focused process
that focuses on consistently improving business
operations management. It strives to ensure that
all associated employees work toward the
common goals of improving product or service
quality, as well as improving the procedures that
are in place for production.

Understanding Total
Quality Of Management (TQM)
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a structured
approach to improving an organization’s outputs
by continuously enhancing internal practices. It
aligns with internal priorities, industry standards,
and regulations. Acceptance sampling may be
used to monitor progress.
WHY USE STATISTICAL
PROCESS CONTROL (SPC)?

Manufacturers face rising competition and raw material costs,

so they must focus on controlling their processes. SPC shifts
quality control from detection to prevention by monitoring real-
time process performance, reducing defects, and improving
efficiency.

HOW TO USE STATISTICAL

.
PROCESS CONTROL (SPC)?

Before implementing SPC, waste areas like rework, scrap, and

excessive inspections should be identified. A Cross-Functional
Team (CFT) selects key characteristics to monitor using Design
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Data is then
collected and analyzed to maintain process quality.
Quality
Assurance
Definition

Quality assurance is a process to ensure products or services meet

quality standards. The QA process helps create quality and
identifies defects and areas for improvement.

Goal of Quality Assurance

The basic goal of QA is to refine processes to deliver continuous
quality by establishing quality objectives, measuring results, and
creating a culture of accountability. QA creates standards,
guidelines, and processes to maintain

Dealing with the 8 Deadly Wastes
1. Identify the Wastes
Conduct a thorough analysis of your operations to identify areas where
the 8 Deadly Wastes are present.
2. Prioritize the Wastes
Determine which wastes are having the greatest impact on your
operations and prioritize them for elimination.
3. Implement Solutions
Develop and implement solutions to eliminate the identified wastes. This
may involve process improvements, training, or changes to policies and
procedures.
4. Monitor Progress
Continuously monitor progress and adjust solutions as needed.

Baldrige Framework for Performance Excellence

The Baldrige Framework is a management model that helps organizations

achieve performance excellence. It was established by the Malcolm Baldrige
National Quality Award in 1987. The framework consists of:
1. Leadership: Senior leaders' role in promoting a culture of excellence
2. Strategy: Development and implementation of strategic plans
3. Customers: Understanding and meeting customer needs
4. Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management: Using data to
inform decision-making
5. Workforce: Engaging and developing employees
6. Operations: Managing core processes to achieve efficiency and
effectiveness
