2. Explain the types of optical fibres with diagrams.
3. Derive Schrodinger’s Time Independent wave equation.
4. State and explain De-Broglie’s Hypothesis. Derive the Expression for De-Broglie wavelength in terms of kinetic
energy of a particle.
5. Derive conditions of maxima and minima for reflected light in case of thin transparent film of uniform thickness.
6. What is Double Refraction? Explain Huygen’s theory of Double Refraction with proper diagrams.
7. State Hall Effect. Derive expression for Hall Voltage and Hall coefficient.

1. Numerical aperture of an optical fibre is 0.5. Find the refractive index of the cladding if the refractive index of the
core is 1.53. Also calculate the index difference.

4. Calculate the energy difference (in eV) between the ground state and first excited state of an electron in a rigid box
of width 1 Å.
5. State and prove Law of Malus with diagram.
6. Explain application of interference as Antireflection Coating. Derive expression for thickness of Antireflection
Coating.
7. Explain the following parameters of a solar cell with diagram i) Open Circuit Voltage (Voc) ii) Short Circuit
Current (Isc) iii) Fill Factor (FF) iv) Efficiency (Ƞ )
8. What is Fermi Level in semiconductors? Explain Fermi-Dirac Probability distribution function.
9. An ultrasonic pulse is sent through a block of copper. The echo pulse is received after 4.5 µs. If the velocity of
ultrasonic waves in copper is 5500 m/s, calculate the thickness of copper block.
10. The critical magnetic field of a superconducting sample is 2 x 104 A/m at 10 K and 4 x 104 A/m at 0 K. Calculate
Critical Temperature of the sample.
11. What is attenuation in optical fibres? Explain in brief any three reasons for attenuation (loss of signal) in optical
fibres.
12. What is holography? Explain the process of Hologram recording with diagram.

14. Calculate De Broglie wavelength of an electron in Angstrom which is subjected to a potential difference of 3 KV.

index 1.5 such that the angle of refraction into the plate is 60 degrees. Calculate the smallest thickness of the plate
which will appear dark in reflected light.
16. If the angle between axes of polarizer and analyzer is 60 degrees, Calculate the ratio of intensity of light transmitted
by analyzer to the intensity of light transmitted by polarizer.

18. The Hall coefficient of doped silicon is found to be 3.66 x 10−3 𝑚 3 /C
The resistivity of the specimen is 8.93 x 10−3 Ω m. Determine the mobility of charge carriers.
