Kirchhoff

Kirchhoff's Laws provide a method to analyze complex circuits by applying two main rules: the conservation of charge at junctions and the conservation of energy in loops. The document includes sample problems and exercises to calculate branch currents in various circuits using these laws. It also specifies the resistance values and voltage sources for each circuit example.

Kirchhoff’s Laws

The current that flows in each branch of a complex circuit can be found by applying Kirchhoff’s rules
to the circuit. The first rule applies to junctions of three or more wires and is the consequence of
conservation of charge. the second rule applies to loops, which are closed conducting paths in the
circuit, and is consequence of conservation of energy. The rules are as follows:

1. The sum of the currents that flows into a junction is equal to the sum of the currents that
flow out the junction.
2. The sum of the emfs and IR potential drops around a loop is equal to zero.
