Slide 1: Title

Good morning/afternoon to every member present here. Today, I will be speaking

on the Salik Road Toll System which is an automated toll collection launched in
Dubai. This project is among a series of projects that will revolutionize
transportation system in cities with Dubai set to be the prime Smart City in the
region.

Slide 2: Background
The Salik system was launched to manage the current and growing traffic
difficulties in the principal freeways and highways of Dubai. It employs RFID, the
short form for Radio Frequency Identification technology, in that it eradicates the
need for toll collection through physical structures such as toll bars. Drivers do not
have to stop as they pay electronically at toll gates, therefore expanding the time
taken which is really less.

Slide 3: Our Objectives

Now, let's dive into the key objectives of the Salik project:
1. Reduce Traffic Jams: In our effort to eradicate conventional toll booths, we
hope to considerably decrease traffic bottleneck in critical channels, more so
during rush hours.
2. Improve Toll Systems: Technological advancement is applied in this
project so as to provide toll payment services that are convenient, efficient
and reliable to the driver.
3. Revenue Generation: More importantly, the revenues collected from the
tolls will allow the constant enhance and improvement of the roads such that
as Dubai expands in population size and economy, the road network that is
required to support this growth is developed adequately.

The foregoing objectives are all aimed not only at satisfying current transportation
requirements but also at closely corresponding to long-term development
strategies of Dubai as a city.

Slide 4: Importance of the Project

First, it is feared to have done away with the long queues usually formed around
toll booths, which must be good news to daily users of the highways. Second, it
aligns with Dubai’s more extensive objective of developing the state into one of the
leading smart cities wherein technology can be utilized to enhance the essential
infrastructure. And third, the money supports the preservation and improvement of
the road infrastructure to address growing traffic intensity.

Slide 5: Company Overview

Allow me some brief background information then, the Salik toll system started its
operation in 2005 as part of the integrated transport plan in Dubai. We have a
vision to assist the city with its goals to come up with a world-class and efficient
transportation network. As for the structure of toll-worked organizations, they can
contain different departments like Engineering, Operations as well as IT, through
which the work of the toll system is arranged.

Slide 6: Automated Toll System

RFID technology forms the core of this project. RFID tags fixed at the vehicles
make it possible to have automatic toll deductions without one having to pay
attention. This also helps to create traffic flow although it also enhances the
usability of the system for the users as well as the operators.

Slide 7: Market Feasibility

In terms of the market feasibility criteria Dubai for instance boasts of more than 3
million registered vehicles by 2023 and this figure is still growing. Such an
increasing volume makes salik and other traffic management systems not only
helpful but imperative as well. Other toll collections systems in other cities have
already depicted increased traffic efficiency and effectiveness, less traffic
congestion, and more revenues collection.

Slide 8: Project Management Approach

In managing the Salik project, we adhere to a structured framework that follows
the five essential phases of project management:
1. Initiation: This entails development of objectives and determination of
potential consumers of project services such as the Dubai roads and
transport authority.
2. Planning: Here, precise project timetables, cost estimates, and opinions
on the allocation of assets are also developed. This phase is crucial and
important as it outlines the strategy for implementation process.
3. Execution: This is where the real deployment of the RFID system is
realized by installation and implementation processes.
4. Monitoring: In managing a project, we always monitor set performance
indicators against initial target in order to achieve intended schedule and
costs.
5. Closure: Lastly, after the implementation phase we test and evaluate,
collect the feedback from the users and then we preserve the
documentation of the project to enhance in future.

Slide 9: Life Cycle

Let’s take a closer look at the project life cycle:
1. Initiation: We then stated our objectives of the work in clear terms
which were to decrease traffic congestion and improve on the toll system.
The potential stakeholders, including the city planner and the
government authorities, have been who were determined in the initial
stage.
2. Planning: To this end, we created the project schedule, lists of resources
required, time frame and measures to handle risks and challenges.
3. Execution: This phase entails activities such as installation of RFID toll
gates and introducing of software for payment of toll.
4. Monitoring: To check project progress against our goals and time table
we have established a competent project tracking team.
5. Closure: The final step involves conducting tests, collecting user
feedback, and writing comprehensive notes on the entire procedure for
future enhancement.

Slide 10: Project Scope

In terms of its scope, the given project can be considered wide underlining several
aspects. We’re putting in place RFID toll gates along all the important roads,
creating account management software, deploying public awareness campaigns for
the users, and creating long-term support and sustainment programs. All these
components are important to guarantee that the Salik system operates optimally in
the long-term.

Slide 11: Project Priority Matrix

We’ve organized our project priorities into a matrix to help guide our decision-
making:
• Must-have: For success, toll gates should use RFID, and the account for
real-time management.
• Should-have: While awareness programs and good interface are crucial,
they do not play the leading role; it is the technology.
• Could-have: Another way, which would additionally improve user
convenience are mobile applications for account management, but those
are not a priority at the moment.
• Will-not-have: One of the options that have been left out of the system
is the cash toll booth because this would not be agreeable to the
automated system we are developing here.

Slide 12: Time & Cost Estimation

Concerning time estimation, we will use PERT and CPM charts for monitoring the
time sequences and controlling other schedules in the project. The overall
budgetary price tag for this work is estimated to be about $1,800,000, which would
include provision for contingency.

Slide 13: Execution and Risk Management

To this end, the execution strategy developed below outlines how the RFID tolling
system will be implemented effectively and efficiently. However, there is always
danger of such things like technology breakdowns, resistances from stakeholders,
or most importantly, the costs could go-over-a-budget. To minimize these risks,
hereby, we have developed strategies such as setting up of emergency funds,
constant communication with stakeholders and general preparedness in case of
disruptions.

Slide 14: Sustainable Perspectives

This project has embraced sustainable development as a sound development plan.
So in regards to the toll gates we’re striving to make them energy efficient,
constructed from recycled materials and have the possibility of the entire system
being improved in the future. Such factors also guarantee that the Salik system not
only meets the needs of the city today, but will also help in the effective future of
the infrastructure of Dubai.

Slide 15: Conclusion

Altogether, it can be explained that the Salik Road Toll System is a strategic
project in the direction of increasing efficiency in traffic operations, improving
satisfaction level of users, as well as in the process of constructing smart city in
Duba. If all these factors are well managed as seen in the following sections on risk
management, stakeholders and their management and overall project
management, then I stand to be assured that the project will be successful.
