After our title defense, we were tasked with revising our research paper. Editing and refining
our work was challenging, especially with limited time. However, through effective time
management, teamwork, and collaboration, we were able to improve our research paper. In
addition to revising Chapters 1 to 3, we also had to start working on Chapters 4 and 5.
INSIGHTS
Throughout this process, we faced many challenges, including the overwhelming workload
and strict deadlines. At times, we were unsure how we could revise our research paper and
complete Chapters 4 and 5 within the given timeframe. However, this experience taught me
the importance of time management, teamwork, and perseverance.
I realized that setting priorities, dividing tasks efficiently, and working together as a team
made a huge difference in overcoming these challenges. Collaboration helped us not only
improve our research but also develop better communication and problem-solving skills.
This experience also reinforced the idea that challenges and deadlines are part of academic
and professional life. Instead of seeing them as obstacles, they should be seen as
opportunities to grow, learn, and improve our skills. Through hard work and determination,
we successfully completed our manuscript, proving that with the right mindset and
teamwork, anything is achievable.
Before our upcoming final defense, we are tasked with revising our research paper and
completing Chapters 4 and 5. Our research title is The Level of Financial Support and Its
Impact on Personal Financial Management of Boarding Students in Sorsogon City.
To prepare for our upcoming final defense, we are reviewing our revised paper, studying key
points, and practicing our presentation.
INSIGHT:
At first, I didn’t like research-related subjects because they seemed difficult and challenging.
However, as we progressed, I found the process fascinating. Getting to know our
respondents and hearing about their struggles while living independently in a boarding
house was heartwarming. Research allowed us to answer important questions, and using
statistical tools and treatments helped my group mates and me identify the financial
difficulties faced by boarding students.
This research experience also made me realize that while working alone is fine, teamwork is
much better. During our previous defense, we relied on collaboration and cooperation to
build strong teamwork. In our upcoming research defense, we will do the same, we give our
best effort and work hard to achieve success.
FINAL DEFENSE
Narrative:
On February 19, 2025, we had our final defense. We felt both nervous and excited at the
same time. As the first group finished, we knew we were next. My heart was pounding so
hard that I could hear it. I let out a deep sigh and took a deep breath before entering the
room.
We presented our research and then prepared ourselves for comments and suggestions
from the panelists. We realized that our research paper contained many mistakes. One
major issue was our failure to properly communicate regarding the arrangement of the
tables. I had assumed my groupmates understood that the interpretation should be placed
below the tables, but they hadn’t. However, we didn’t blame each other. Instead, we learned
from our mistakes and promised to improve our communication.
Although we didn’t receive a high grade, we were proud of ourselves. The experience taught
us valuable lessons, and we successfully presented our work to the panelists. Afterward, we
revised our research paper, ensuring that we maintained clear communication. Even when
working remotely, we collaborated effectively.
Insight
Research is challenging. However, working together as a team helped us improve both our
teamwork and our final output. Some students see research as a friendship breaker, a
source of stress, and a difficult challenge. While they aren’t entirely wrong, I now see it
differently. This experience made me realize that conflicts with group mates are inevitable,
but in the end, they strengthen our friendship. We learned to collaborate, put in effort, and
support one another.
Research is indeed stressful, but successfully completing it and reaching the final defense
made all the stress worthwhile. It made us stronger and more resilient.
The challenges we faced were tough, but through collaboration and cooperation, we
produced a research paper we are proud of. I hope that our research will contribute to future
studies and inspire student researchers to continue exploring the independence of boarding
students in Sorsogon City.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported and inspired me in
completing my portfolio and participating in the research congress poster presentation
alongside my co-members in work immersion.
First and foremost, I acknowledge the grace and almightiness of our beloved God for His
guidance, for blessing me with the people who helped me accomplish this work, and for
giving me the strength to overcome the challenges that come with this journey.
I extend my deepest appreciation to my adviser, Sir Cesar Del Ayre Herrera Jr., for his
unwavering guidance and encouragement throughout my work immersion. His support
played a crucial role in refining our research paper and developing our poster for the
research congress. I am truly grateful for his efforts in mentoring us and for giving us the
opportunity to participate in this academic endeavor.
I also acknowledge the students who showed interest in our posters and participated in the
research congress. Their engagement and curiosity made this experience even more
meaningful. Additionally, I extend my gratitude to the resource speakers and teachers for
sharing their invaluable knowledge, which helped prepare us for our actual work immersion. I
am also thankful to the judges of the research congress for their time and valuable insights.
Furthermore, I would like to express my appreciation to Ma’am Anne E. Marcial, Assistant
Principal II for Academics, and Sir Armando D. Engay, Principal I of Sorsogon National High
School, for granting permission to hold this event and allowing us to gain new experiences
and knowledge in the field of research.
My heartfelt gratitude also goes to my family for their unwavering emotional and financial
support throughout my work immersion journey. Their encouragement has been instrumental
in helping me complete this endeavor successfully.
Once again, thank you to everyone who contributed to this journey in one way or another.
INTRODUCTION
Work immersion has been a significant part of my journey, serving as a stepping stone
toward achieving my dreams and aspirations. It has inspired me to become more resilient,
stay focused on my studies, and be more responsible. Through this experience, I have
learned the value of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Collaborating with others has
helped me enhance my skills and knowledge while working toward a common goal.
One of the most valuable lessons I gained from work immersion is improving my skills,
especially in designing. Our task was to create a research poster, and I contributed my ideas
to ensure its formal and creative presentation. At first, I was hesitant about interacting with
many people, as I tend to be shy in large groups. However, as I progressed through the
immersion, I gradually became more comfortable facing and speaking with others.
Presenting our poster to the judges made me nervous at first, but their positive feedback and
openness to listen and give suggestions helped ease my anxiety. This experience taught me
the importance of confidence and not letting nervousness hold me back.
I also gained valuable knowledge from the sessions conducted during the program. These
sessions covered various topics, such as workplace safety, resume and application letter
writing, and job interview tips. Each session provided new insights that helped me consider
my future career path. The activities were engaging and enjoyable, making the learning
process even more meaningful.
Beyond learning technical skills, work immersion allowed me to interact with different people,
understand the expectations of my chosen career path, and improve my personal and
professional skills. This experience reminded me that learning is a continuous journey. Just
because I have come this far does not mean I should stop striving for growth. Challenges
and mistakes are part of the process, and every setback is an opportunity to improve. Even
professionals continue to learn and adapt, so I should embrace difficulties as chances for
development.
Overall, my work immersion experience has had a positive impact on me. I am proud to have
completed this journey, as it has taught me that learning is not limited to the classroom but
extends to real-life experiences. Work immersion is more than just a requirement; it is an
opportunity to showcase my skills, gain knowledge, and understand what it takes to be a
professional. It also made me aware of my weaknesses and helped me work on them.
Looking back, I am truly grateful for this opportunity, as it has helped shape me into a better
and more capable individual.
POST IMMERSION
NARRATIVE:
After our final defense, Sir Cesar D. Herrera announced the upcoming Research Congress.
Some of our classmates were chosen to present their research through a pitch, while the
rest of us were assigned to create and present a research poster.
We were excited but also nervous about the responsibility of designing the poster. Since we
couldn’t always meet in person, we had to find alternative ways to collaborate. We used
Canvato design the poster online, sharing the link so that all team members could contribute
and make revisions efficiently.
For the design, we carefully chose purple and white as our primary colors. White symbolizes
independence, which aligns with the theme of our research about boarding students and
how they learn to live on their own. Purple, on the other hand, represents wisdom, creativity,
and ambition, qualities that are essential for students who face the challenges of
independent living. These colors not only made our poster visually appealing but also
reinforced the essence of our study.
INSIGHTS:
Overall, this process was both challenging and rewarding. It reinforced the importance of
collaboration, patience, and creative problem-solving, all of which are valuable skills I can
use in future academic and professional experiences.
Post Work Immersion Narrative Report
Day 1 – March 10, 2025
On March 10, 2025, the post-work immersion officially began. This was the day we
presented our research posters. In our group, only one member needed to stay with the
poster to present it. Our leader assigned specific time slots for each of us to supervise the
poster. My assigned time was from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
The program started with an opening ceremony held at the Sorsogon National High School
covered court. While waiting for my turn, I listened to the program.
The event began with a welcome message from our school principal, Mr. Armando D. Engay,
who inspired us to never stop learning and to embrace opportunities for growth.
Next, Sir Benji Cadag, the Division SHS Coordinator, delivered an inspiring message. He
shared his knowledge with us and emphasized the importance of great learners, great
teachers with great teaching, great leaders, great schools, and great partners. His words
encouraged us to always look toward our future with determination and purpose.
After the speeches, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Senior High School booths took
place. Different strands, including GAS, showcased their exhibits. Several schools were also
invited to witness and participate in the program, providing valuable information for students
who may be interested in applying to their institutions. This reminded us that learning is
limitless.
Following this, the first and second sessions were conducted, giving us insights into the four
possible paths we can take after Senior High School. These sessions provided guidance on
our academic and career journeys.
As part of the program, Arts and Design students performed a dance intermission, and one
of our SNHS students delivered an amazing vocal performance.
By 11:30 AM, my assigned time to supervise our research poster arrived. I felt nervous as
many students gathered around, observing our work. Some asked questions, while others
simply examined the poster. I was especially anxious when one of the judges approached
me. Although I responded quickly, I felt that I didn't explain our findings clearly enough.
However, I managed to effectively present our recommendations.
In the afternoon, after completing my duty at the poster, I attended Session 3: Research as a
Passion – Finding Meaning in Inquiry, conducted by Sir Michael M. Uy, an Education
Program Supervisor. He emphasized that research is not just about gathering information; it
plays a crucial role in answering important questions and discovering new knowledge. He
also shared an interesting story about the anglerfish, explaining how research helped
scientists understand its origins and reproduction process.
The final session, Session 4:Research and Values, Embodying Excellence and Integrity, was
facilitated by Master Teacher I, Mr. Francois L. Detera. This session covered various
research-related topics, including the three common difficulties in conducting research, the
BERA principle, ethics in research, unethical research practices, and AI tools in research.
However, some students in the audience were distracted, using their phones instead of
listening. This seemed to affect the speaker, who focused only on those seated in front of
him. Despite this, I understood his fatigue, as speaking to a large audience can be
exhausting.
Overall, the first day of the post-work immersion was a valuable experience. It provided us
with new knowledge, inspiration, and the opportunity to present our research.
Insights
The first day of the post-work immersion made me realize that learning doesn’t stop in
school. The speeches reminded me that education is a lifelong journey, and there are many
opportunities waiting for us if we are willing to grab them.
Supervising our research poster was both exciting and nerve-wracking. I learned that
confidence and preparation are very important when explaining our work. Even though I was
nervous, I was able to share our recommendations, which made me feel proud.
The research sessions helped me understand that research is not just about finding answers
but also about being responsible and honest in our work. It also showed me how research
helps us discover new things.
Lastly, I realized the importance of respect and focus when learning. Some students were
distracted during the last session, and it made me see how important it is to listen and make
the most of every learning opportunity.
This was the final day of our post-work immersion. In the morning, our leader supervised our
research while I visited the booths to see their outputs. I admired how well they were
organized and how they engaged with people, especially the HUMSS students. Their
achievements were truly beneficial to the environment. Meanwhile, the GAS students
showcased their hard work and dedication through their booth displays. It was especially
amusing to see photos of GAS 1 students participating in the tree-planting activity in
Gimaloto. However, I noticed that the products in each strand’s booth were quite expensive.
Nevertheless, the handmade crafts were beautiful and worth the price.
In the afternoon, we reached the most anticipated moment—the closing of the post-work
immersion. Several officials, including the Education Program Supervisor for TLE, Ms.
Lourdes C. Egay, shared special messages with us. She imparted valuable lessons and
guidance, emphasizing one meaningful word: SMILE—S for Socialization, M for Milestone, I
for Initiate, L for Learn, and E for Emotion.
Before the official closing, we enjoyed an outstanding performance from the Arts and Design
students, who showcased their talents in acting, singing, and more. Their performances
were deeply relatable, keeping me at the edge of my seat.
Another highlight of the program was the testimonial segment, where students from different
strands shared their learnings and experiences throughout the immersion. A video
compilation of various strands' activities was also presented.
Finally, we reached the last part—the awarding ceremony for outstanding students in work
immersion. I was proud to see that most of the awardees came from GAS 1. They truly
deserved the recognition for their dedication and hard work. Unfortunately, we didn’t win a
poster award, but that didn’t mean we lost. Our commitment and teamwork made us winners
in our own way. Every strand was a winner, and the beauty of our posters reflected our
efforts and struggles, making our experience worthwhile and successful.
Insight:
The post-work immersion was a meaningful experience that taught us valuable lessons
about dedication, teamwork, and perseverance. It helped us develop important skills, face
challenges, and appreciate the efforts of others. The knowledge and experiences we gained
will surely guide us in our future endeavors.
