CHAPTER THREE

METHODOLOGY

The research methodology utilized to carry out the study was detailed in this chapter. It was

outlined as follows: research design, study population, sample size and sampling method,

instrumentation, instrument validity, method of data collecting, and method of data analysis.

3.1 Research Design

The descriptive survey research design was used for this investigation. This approach helped

determine the promotion of women empowerment effect by microfinance banks product (MFBs)

in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun Satate, Nigeria and assess their impact on their performance. According to

research findings on factors relevant to this study, academics have used a variety of research

designs, including case studies, cross-sectional studies, correlation surveys, and descriptive

research designs. A descriptive design is therefore thought to be the most suitable research design

for this subject, given the goals of the current investigation. It is deemed appropriate since it

emphasizes observation and will outline and explain the study's problems.

3.2 AGO-IWOYE

Ago-Iwoye was founded in 1510 and is a traditional town located in Ogun State, Nigeria, within

the Ijebu Kingdom. It was officially named in 1931 thanks to the work of the Agọ-Iwoye

Progress Union. Ago-Iwoye is split into seven strategic sections: Idode, Imere, Isamuro, Ibipe,

Imososi, Igan, and Imosu. Abundant with rich cultural history, Ago-Iwoye has Olabisi Onabanjo

University, the influence of whose presence immensely supports the town's booming population

and cosmopolitan outlook, made up predominantly of students. The town has a host of cultural
celebrations, which advertise its culture and attract visitors within its environs. Ago-Iwoye is

agriculturally driven economically, with the majority of the residents engaged in farming and

business, though the university has helped to increase the service sector. The town highly values

education since there are various primary and secondary schools, in addition to initiatives aimed

at increasing the accessibility and quality of education, further contributing to the town's

development.

3.3 Population of the Study

The population for this study comprised the entire 14,905 women out of approximately 190,000

of the total population in Ago-Iwoye representing 7.8%.

3.4 Sample and Sampling Technique

To choose the residence in Ijebu north, the simple random sampling technique was used. To

ensure their demographic concerns and thus increase reliability, the residence were randomly

chosen from the population. To get the sample size, the researcher employed Taro Yamane's

N
method, which is as follows: n= N/ (1+N (e) 2). n=
1+ N (e) 2

Where:

n= sample size

N = Population

e = level of significance. This study adopts a 5% level of significance.

Operationalizing the formula, the sample size was calculated as:

14,905
n=
1+ 14,905(0.05) 2
14,905
n=
1193.75

n = 150 respondents. + error

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Microfinance Products in Promoting Women's

Empowerment in Ago-Iwoye

3.5 Description of Research Instrument

The Microfinance Products Effectiveness and Women's Empowerment Promotion Questionnaire

(MPEWEPQ) was developed by the researcher to gather data for this study. It consists of 2 tools

that the researcher used for the investigation. The Marketing Strategies Survey Questionnaire, a

16-item survey created by Earvin in 2016, was combined with the Microfinance Banks Product

Questionnaire, a 16-item survey. Two components made up the instrument: section (A) was used

to get demographic data about the respondents; section (B) was used to gather opinions about the

respondents' Microfinance Products Effectiveness and Women's Empowerment Promotion.

3.6 Validation of the Instruments

The validity of the instrument's content was examined. The extent to which a research tool

adequately captures the behavior domain it is intended to measure is referred to as content

validity. The content domain and the kind of work expected from the respondents must be taken

into account to establish content validity. The topic of the study, the problem statement, the

study's aim, the research questions, and the draught structured instrument were all given to the

study's supervisor to assess the instrument's face and content validity. The adjustments were

made to enhance the instrument's face and content validity.

3.7 Method of Data Collection

The researcher delivered the instruments to the samples and then collected them questionnaire.

Within a week, the administration of the tool was completed.

3.8 Method of Data Analysis

The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and linear regression techniques.

3.9 Ethical Considerations

When making decisions for research and defending the rights and welfare of participants, ethical

considerations must be taken into account 2

Informed consent from participants, minimizing potential harm to participants, maintaining data

confidentiality, and debriefing participants following the study are all considered ethical factors

in research, according to the APA Style.Ethical considerations in research are a collection of

rules and principles that must be adhered to in order to ensure that research is carried out in a

way that supports the rights and welfare of the participants and is in line with ethical standards. 1

Prior to being enrolled in the study, informed consent was gained from each responder.
