Atoll Software:
Planning LTE Network
I. OBJECTIVE
 Planning LTE network
 Predication calculation on atoll software
II. Background
 Overview
Atoll is a multi-technology wireless network design and optimization platform that
supports wireless operators throughout the network lifecycle, from initial design to
densification and optimization.
Atoll includes integrated single RAN – multiple RAT network design capabilities for
both 3GPP (GSM/UMTS/LTE/NB-IoT) and 3GPP2 (CDMA/LTE/NB-IoT)
technology streams. It provides operators and vendors with a powerful native 64-bit
framework for designing and optimizing multi-technology networks.
Atoll supports multi-technology HetNets, C-RAN deployment, small cell planning,
and also provides IoT network design and optimization capabilities through the
IoT/LPWA and NB-IoT modules.
Atoll’s integration and automation features help operators smoothly automate
planning and optimization processes through flexible scripting and SOA-based
mechanisms.
Atoll supports a wide range of implementation scenarios, from standalone to
enterprise-wide server-based configurations.
 Introduction to GSM planning.
 Function of Network Planning
 With low cost to construct mobile network which meet current and future
traffic requirement and have certain service grade
 To provide well coverage and credible QOS in whole planning area
 Radio system capacity meet traffic requirement
 Efficient use of usable frequency band.
Make sure the amount of sites and corresponding site location in planning area
 Make sure cell parameter: Antenna Type, Height, Direction (Azimuth), Down
tilt and efficiency eradiate power and so on
 Make sure the TRX number of cell configuration
 Make sure frequency configuration
 Make sure radio resource parameter
 Guiding principles
 Proceeding to meet traffic requirement in the future
 Validity: make sure planning result could satisfy guideline and offer
anticipative planning quality
 Economic to reduce cost and improve equipment using ratio if possible
 Repetitious: network planning does not do once and for ever, it needs
adjustment and Optimization time after time
 Holistic: radio network is a interaction system
 Aftereffect of improper planning
 If the development of capacity is larger than that of user's, it will make
resource on edge and affect the quality of communication
 If the capacity surpass market requirement, it will induce network resource
wasteful
 Procedures of Radio Network Planning

III. Steps
 Open Atoll File New from a document template
chooseLTE

Now you must enter the maps:

 File Import (go to the location where the map is saved) Clutter
Index Clutter Classes.
 File Import Heights Index Altitudes
 File Import Vectors Index Vectors Import
 Add 3 sites with distance between them not exceeding 5 km
 Choose from the drop list of station templates (10MHz-Dense Urban 3
sectors)

 From the Geo tab computational zone draw Draw a rectangle from
corner to corner in the working place.
Now you must study the impact of traffic:
From the Geo tab right click on Traffic New map choose as
followingCreate

 Choose dense Urban draw a random triangle

 From the Geo tab right click on computational zone properties
copy the coordinate ok

 Go to the triangle traffic you draw right click on the top of the triangle
choose properties paste the coordinate

 In the data tab right click on the LTE simulations press new
 Change the value of the number of simulations to 5 as followings
applyok
 Right click on predictions press New from study types drop list choose
coverage by transmitters
 From the predictions file right click of the coverage by Transmitters press
calculate
 Right click on predictions press New from study types drop list choose
Effective Signal Analysis(DL)
 In the General tab Change the resolution to 10 m
 In the Condition tab Change the data as followings

 In the Display tab Change the data as followings

 Right click on predictions press New from study types drop list choose
Coverage by throughput (DL)

 In the General tab Change the resolution to 10 m

 In the Condition tab Change the data as followings

 In the Display tab Change the data as followings

 Right click on the predictions press calculate
IV. To be prepared
Study the network for the same type but with Uplink case. Comment on the
results.
