Computwr Class Assignment 2
Computwr Class Assignment 2
2. Year 2: Make decisions (I picked a college and I’m currently enrolled. Now, I need to start
working to my degree. What will I need to accomplish this? How would I accomplish this
in a 4-year time?)
3. Year 3: It is my first year getting my masters. Now that I am in 1st year, I’m working harder
to earn my masters. I have a plan set, and I need to fulfill it within this and the next 2
years.
4. Year 4: It is now the 2nd year of earning my master’s degree. Now that I am on track to
getting my degree, I need to decide what job opportunities I have now that I’m almost
done with my degree.
5. Year 5: I have finished my master’s degree and I’m searching for a job in the field.
Although I would like to start at the national level, it is best to start at a local level before
I can work to the national level (this could take a set amount of time or could happen
quickly depending on outside factors).
Does your computer need to be fast? Why? For my process, my computer doesn’t necessarily have to be
the fastest, although it would be a crucial decision in order for me to get my degree. This is the case
because when getting a master’s degree, I will have many deadlines and plenty of work, thus requiring
a computer that can handle the process.
How much storage do you need and why? Is there any reason to prefer an SSD (Solid State Drive) over an
HD (Hard Drive). Will you need additional external storage? Why or why not? Mainly, for earning this
degree, I predict I will need about 64 gb of data on a hard drive. Usually, when typing essays (something
I will be doing when earning this degree), it will require me to not only save my essays locally, but it will
also require me to save my essays on the cloud and in a backup hard drive. Considering pdf and word
documents have a small amount of file space compared to videos and powerpoints, 64 gb of data would
be best. It is plentiful, yet affordable and able to get the job done.
Form Factor
What form factor will be best and why? For my master’s degree, I will mainly need a laptop to do my
work. This is the case because again a laptop will provide portable usage that can help me earn my
degree, along with being able to use it anywhere at a given moment.
Peripherals (Input and Output -- monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, camera, etc.) and extras (eg.
Graphics card with onboard VRAM)
What peripherals and extras will you need and why? The only peripheral I will need for this task would
be a mouse. A laptop often comes with peripherals, such as a camera (webcam), keyboard, speakers
(internal and external) and a graphics card (memory card/possible cloud storage). The main reason I
would need a mouse despite having a touchpad is for my own personal preference, as I believe using a
mouse is more comfortable for me.
Software
What software will you need and why? The main software I would need for this task would be word
processing software and a grammar and spell checker. I would need these tools because, as an English
major, I would have to make my essays clear and concise, using good vocabulary and eliminating
technical jargon. Along with this, most work would need to be done on a word processing document so
it can be exported to certain file types. Without this, I couldn’t complete the work given, thus not being
able to earn my master’s degree.
1. Year 1: Finding an apartment might be a bit difficult. I would have to determine whether
I want to move to a different place or stay in the same place where I want to live. In
that case, this decision might not take long, so afterward, I would look for an apartment.
Mainly, I would check for listings on websites like Zillow to determine what apartment
I can afford.
2. Year 2: Move into apartment: After finding an apartment, I would then need to plan my
move in day. This would mean gathering my items and any necessary items I need to
move into my home.
3. Year 3: By needed items and materials for apartment: This can fall into year 2, but it will
be most needed in year 3. In year 3, I will be adjusting to my place better and might
want to find new items to give the place a bit of style and color. I will also be doing
maintenance in order to keep my apartment working and up to date.
4. Year 4: Continuation of year 3: This is mainly the same thing as year 3, but instead, I am
now working into a routine of getting required materials such as groceries and paying
my bills on time or earlier.
5. Year 5: Continuation of year 3 and 4: My routine is now most likely set in stone, and I
am able to pay off and follow my routine to a tee, so much so that I might have extra
funds leftover to save or for fun things.
Does your computer need to be fast? Why? For this future, I am not technically required to have a
computer, although if needed, it doesn’t necessarily need to be fast due to finding an apartment being
a mostly give or take process, with listings coming and going.
Storage (Drive – Hard Drive, Solid State Drive, External Drive)
How much storage do you need and why? Is there any reason to prefer an SSD (Solid State Drive) over an
HD (Hard Drive). Will you need additional external storage? Why or why not? Storage space is also not
much of a need. I could make do with possibly 5 gb of data. This is due to mainly only saving apartments
I want and finding out more about the place I am interested in.
Form Factor
What form factor will be best and why? Mainly, a computer for this task (if needed) would be one that
is cheap and easy to access. This is due to the task being one that doesn’t need much storage or working
hardware.
Peripherals (Input and Output -- monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, camera, etc.) and extras (eg.
Graphics card with onboard VRAM)
What peripherals and extras will you need and why? Mainly, I would need a mouse. This is due to a
personal preference of wanting to have a mouse for myself rather than a needed expense.
Software
What software will you need and why? The main software I would need for this task would possibly be
a word processing software. This would be to sort documents and details I find out about apartments
listed and needed.
1. Year 1: Finding a job: To do this process, I would need to look up job listings, along with
visiting local news stations or other reporting companies in order to find a job. This
would also require me to make resumes, cover letters, prepare for interviews, and fill
out paperwork.
2. Year 2: Getting the Job and Working: Now that I have the job, I would need to work
hard in order to fulfill the needs of the company. This would require dedicating time
and effort to the job at hand.
3. Year 3: Possible openings for promotion: Mainly, after my first year, I might have the
chance for bigger projects. This would mean working extra hard in order to get a better
chance at either a promotion or extra pay.
4. Year 4: Possible promotion given and more work: Now that I possibly got the
promotion, I would have to work harder to maintain it. In order to maintain, I would
have to work hard and dedicate my time the same way I did before.
5. Year 5: Same as year 4: I may have been at the company for 3 years, but I still have to
maintain my work ethic to show my value and worth at my job.
Does your computer need to be fast? Why? My computer will need to be fast for this process. In the
news industry, stories and articles have to be developed fast and efficiently, thus requiring a fast
processor and memory.
How much storage do you need and why? Is there any reason to prefer an SSD (Solid State Drive) over an
HD (Hard Drive). Will you need additional external storage? Why or why not? With storage, I will most
likely need 1tb of data. This is due to news stories not being as easy to just delete once done. News
stories have to be saved and referenced at times, along with the many sources and other things that
would be needed to do the job right.
Form Factor
What form factor will be best and why? This job will require a pc. This is because processing will be
faster, more efficient, and require more storage than an average laptop.
Peripherals (Input and Output -- monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, camera, etc.) and extras (eg.
Graphics card with onboard VRAM)
What peripherals and extras will you need and why? I will most likely need a monitor, mouse, keyboard,
and camera. I will need a monitor so I can view my work, a mouse and keyboard so I can type and click
articles, and a camera just in case I have to do remote meetings online.
Software
What software will you need and why? The software I will need will be a word processor, spreadsheet
processor, grammar checker, media apps, and viewers. This is all because my job will require countless
notes and work, along with various media downloads for reference, and organization to get the job
done quicker.
