• No calculators or cell phones or other electronic devices allowed at any time.

• Show all your reasoning and work for full credit, except where otherwise indicated. Use full mathe-
matical or English sentences.
• You have 90 minutes and the exam is 48 points.
• You do not need to simplify numerical expressions unless otherwise stated. For example leave fractions
like 100/7 or expressions like ln(3)/2 as is.

• When done, give your exam to your instructor, who will mark your name off on a photo roster.

3. (6 points) Laying on its side, in the basement of the math department is a large cylin-
drical tank with a length of 8 m and a radius of 2 m. The tank is half full with the
strongest coffee known to man, having a density of ρ = 1314 kg/m3 . The department
chair would like to serve the rest of the coffee to a conference of visiting mathematicians.
Assuming g = 9.8 m/s2 , set up but do not evaluate an integral to compute the
work done to pump the coffee out through the top of the tank when the tank is half full.
