Week 1: Curriculum Overview & Initial Self-Assessment

Objective: Establish a clear overview of all topics, review the marking scheme, and identify
your strengths and gaps.

 Day 1 (April 1):

• Read the Creative Arts & Design curriculum summary and BECE marking scheme
notes.
• Create a list of topics, key concepts (elements & principles of design, shading
techniques, design process steps, etc.), and any formulas or practical tips noted in the
documents.
• Write a self-assessment: What do you already know? What needs revision?
 Day 2 (April 2):
• Review definitions and examples of design elements (line, shape, colour, texture, space)
and principles (balance, contrast, unity, emphasis, rhythm).
• Create flashcards for each element and principle.
 Day 3 (April 3):
• Quiz yourself using your flashcards.
• Summarize in your notebook how each element and principle appears in real-life
artworks.

functions.
• Watch an online demo (or review your workshop handouts) on basic sketching and
shading.
 Day 5 (April 5):
• Practice a short sketch of a simple object (e.g., a cube or cone) focusing on clear
outlines and proper proportions.
• Write down one tip you learned about tool use.
 Day 6 (April 6):
• Reflect on what you’ve studied this week by summarizing your key takeaways in one
page.
• Identify 2–3 questions you still have.

• Combine drawing and colouring: Sketch a still-life object and add shading using colour
pencils or crayons.
• Write down challenges you encountered.
 Day 19 (April 19):
• Self-quiz on key tips for shading and tone variation; create a checklist for what makes
effective shading.
 Day 20 (April 20):
• Reflect in your journal: Which shading technique suits your style best and why?
 Day 21 (April 21):
• (Weekend practice) Complete a full still-life drawing, paying special attention to the use
of light, middle, and dark tones.

Week 4: The Design Process & Creativity

Objective: Reinforce the steps of the design process and boost your creative problem-solving.

 Day 22 (April 22):

• Re-read the steps of the design process: research/observation, brainstorming,
planning/layout, production, evaluation.
• Write a short summary of each step.
 Day 23 (April 23):
• Draft a personal design brief: choose a simple project (e.g., design a poster for a school
event) and list your ideas.
 Day 24 (April 24):
• Create rough sketches/layouts for your design project.
• Experiment with different compositions.
 Day 25 (April 25):
• Review creative strategies (brainstorming techniques, mind-mapping).
• Create a personal mind-map to generate innovative ideas for your project.
 Day 26 (April 26):
• Revise by comparing your sketches and mind-map with sample designs.
• Note improvements you could make.
 Day 27 (April 27):
• Write a reflective paragraph on your design process: What worked well? What would
you change next time?
 Day 28 (April 28):
• (Weekend) Finalize a simple design project outline and prepare any preliminary
sketches for further development.

May 2025
Week 5: Focus on Strand 2 – Media & Techniques

Objective: Explore different art media and review the specific tools and techniques associated
with each.

 Day 29 (May 1):

• Review a table of various art media (clay, printmaking, drawing, weaving) and note
their key characteristics and techniques.
• Create a summary sheet of media and associated tools.
 Day 30 (May 2):
• Choose one medium (e.g., clay) and watch a tutorial or read a detailed description of
basic techniques.
• Write down step-by-step instructions in your own words.
 Day 31 (May 3):
• Practice using the chosen medium: Make a simple model or try a printmaking exercise.
• Document your process with notes and photos or sketches.
 Day 32 (May 4):
• Self-test: Create flashcards on the functions and advantages of different media.
• Quiz yourself or with a peer.
