Assignment 1 Motion

The assignment focuses on motion control and servo systems, requiring calculations for damping ratios and natural frequencies. It includes tasks to determine system parameters using given figures, as well as MATLAB simulations for various system responses. Additionally, it asks for both analytical and computational analysis of system performance metrics in response to unit-step inputs.

Motion Control & Servo

Assignment 1

1) Referring to the system shown in Figure 5-75, determine the values of K and k such that the
system has a damping ratio of 0.7 and an un damped natural frequency w of 4 rad/sec.

2) Consider the system shown in Figure 5-76. Determine the value of k such that the damping
ratio is 0.5. Then obtain the rise time t,, peak time tp , maximum overshoot M , and settling time
ts in the unit-step response.

3) Using MATLAB, obtain the unit-step response, unit-ramp response, and unit-impulse response
of the following system:

where R(s) and C(s) are Laplace transforms of the input r(t) and output c(t), respectively.

4) Using MATLAB, obtain the unit-step response, unit-ramp response, and unit-impulse response
of the following system:

where u is the input and y is the output.

5) Obtain both analytically and computationally the rise time, peak time, maximum overshoot, and
settling time in the unit-step response of a closed-loop system given by:
