Google's Organisational Structure: A Deep Dive

Google is one of the most innovative and unique companies in terms of organisational structure in
the corporate market. Google is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.; it has adjusted its operational model to
meet the contingencies arising from a dynamic environment. This kind of organisation makes it
easier, more creative, and more effective to make decisions, which are vital for any tech firm to
sustain its position.

1. Matrix Organisational Structure:

In its simplest form, therefore, Google’s organisational design can best be described as a matrix
structure. This implies that some employees are accountable to two managers, a project manager
and a functional manager. For instance, a software engineer in a team that is developing a new
release of an operating system such as the new Android version will be receiving a dotted-line report
to both a functional manager in a specific organisational engineering department and a project
manager in charge of a specific new product. The structure also enables Google to leverage expertise
across the workforce to help various departments in other functions by working collaboratively.

The matrix structure has a significant benefit because it promotes collaboration and knowledge
sharing. Workers of different departments, marketing, software engineers, and operations are often
required to collaborate on the same project. This kind of integration is especially crucial in
technology firms such as Google due to the methods of the development of products.
