PROBLEM SET 1&2

NAME- SHIVANI PATHAK

ROLL NO- 202310101150184
COURSE- BTECH.CS (DS+AI)
GROUP- 47,48
SUBJECT- SOFT SKILLS

PROBLEM SET 1
QUE 1:-Describe a situation where you had to communicate a
complex idea to a non-technical person. How did you approach the
situation and what strategies did you use to ensure effective
communication?
ANS:- Situation:
While working on a software project, I had to explain a cloud
migration plan to a non-technical client who owned a small business.
They were concerned about the cost, security, and downtime
involved in moving their data and operations from on-premise
servers to the cloud.
Approach:I began by understanding the client’s concerns in simple
terms—cost, safety, and reliability. Then, I avoided technical jargon
and instead used real-life analogies. I compared cloud migration to
moving from a small storage room (on-premise server) to a highly
secure, flexible, and larger rented storage facility (cloud). This helped
them visualize the benefit of scalability and remote access.

Strategy for Effective Communication:

1. Simplified Language: I broke down each phase of the migration

into basic steps and used analogies to make abstract concepts
relatable.

2. Visual Aids: I used a simple diagram to show how data would move
and where it would be stored.

Que :2 :-Describe a team project you worked on and your role within
the team. How did you contribute to
the team's efforts and what did you learn from the experience?
ANS: - I worked on a team project where we developed a college
event management website. My role focused
on frontend development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I
designed the user interface, ensuring it was
mobile-responsive and user-friendly. Throughout the project, I
actively participated in planning meetings,
shared updates regularly, and coordinated with the backend team to
integrate the UI with the server. I also
helped resolve bugs during testing and suggested improvements for a
better user experience. One key to
learning from this project was how crucial communication and
coordination are in a team setting. We all had
different strengths, and by respecting each other’s input, we
completed the project successfully. I also learned
how to manage deadlines and divide tasks efficiently. Overall, the
experience improved my teamwork and
technical skills and taught me the importance of accountability and
collaboration when working on real-world projects.
Que :3: - Describe a situation where you encountered an unexpected
obstacle or challenge. How did you
approach the problem and what solution did you implement?
ANS:- During a 24-hour college hackathon, our team faced a major
issue when our app stopped running just
two hours before the final submission. After quick debugging, we
found that a newly installed package update
was causing compatibility problems. Instead of panicking, I suggested
we roll back to a previous stable version
of the package and manually test the app for other issues. While one
team member implemented the rollback,
I checked the documentation and ensured no other dependencies
would be affected. We worked together
under pressure and managed to submit a working version on time.
This situation taught me how valuable it is
to stay calm and work methodically during a crisis. I also learned the
importance of version control, regular
testing, and backing up code. That experience made me more
confident in problem-solving and handling
unexpected challenges effectively, especially under time constraints.
Que: 4:- Write about a time when you had to prioritize tasks and
manage your time effectively. What did
you learn from the experience and how has it influenced your
approach to time management?
ANS: - During one semester, I had to balance college classes, coding
practice for placements, and a project
submission—all within the same month. Initially, I felt overwhelmed
and missed a few important deadlines. I
realized I needed a better time management strategy. So, I started
breaking my tasks into smaller chunks and
prioritized them using the Eisenhower Matrix. I created a weekly
planner, allocating fixed hours to studies,
coding, and project work. I also reduced distractions like unnecessary
screen time. This helped me complete
my work on time without burnout. The biggest lesson I learned was
that consistency beats last-minute efforts.
Since then, I’ve been using digital tools like Google Calendar and
Notion to stay organized. This experience
improved my productivity and taught me the value of planning
ahead. It also influenced how I approach large
workloads now—I stay more focused and efficient, even when
multiple responsibilities pile up.

PROBLEM SET 2
Que: 1 Write about a time when you received feedback or
constructive criticism. How did you respond to the feedback
and what changes did you make as a result?
ANS :- During a class presentation on a technical topic, my professor
pointed out that while my content was accurate, it
was too technical for the audience. He suggested simplifying the
language and using more relatable examples. At first, I
felt a bit disheartened because I had spent a lot of time preparing,
but I took the feedback positively. I revised my slides
by replacing jargon with simple terms and added visuals to help
explain key points. In my next presentation, the
audience was more engaged, and I received much better feedback.
This experience taught me that constructive criticism
is an opportunity for growth. I learned the importance of
understanding the audience and adapting my communication
style accordingly. Now, whenever I receive feedback, I see it as a tool
to refine my work rather than as a personal
criticism.
Que: 2 Write about a time when you had to work with someone who
had a different work style or perspective. How
did you adapt to the situation and ensure effective collaboration?
ANS :- During a group assignment, I was paired with a classmate who
preferred working late at night, while I was more
productive in the mornings. At first, our different schedules caused
delays and miscommunication. Instead of letting it
become a problem, I suggested using shared documents and task
management tools so we could work asynchronously
and still stay on the same page. We also scheduled short meetings at
a mutually convenient time to review progress.
Over time, I learned to appreciate his unique perspective—he
brought creative ideas that I hadn’t considered. This
experience taught me that flexibility and mutual respect are key in
teamwork. Collaborating with someone with a
different work style made me more patient, adaptable, and open-
minded. It also showed me that diverse working
approaches, when managed well, can lead to better results.
Que: 3 Describe a situation where you took the initiative to lead a
project or team. What challenges did you face and
how did you overcome them?
ANS :- In my second year, I volunteered to lead a small team for a
college tech fest event. We were responsible for
organizing a coding competition. Initially, I faced challenges in
delegating tasks and aligning everyone’s schedules. Some
members were unsure of their roles, while others were hesitant to
share ideas. I called a team meeting, assigned clear
responsibilities based on individual strengths, and encouraged open
communication. I also created a shared timeline to
track our progress. As the event approached, our coordination
improved, and the competition ran smoothly. Taking
initiative taught me a lot about leadership—especially the
importance of listening, planning, and motivating others. It
wasn’t always easy, but overcoming those challenges gave me
confidence in my ability to manage teams and solve
problems collaboratively. The experience helped me grow both as a
leader and as a team member.
Que: 4 Write about a time when you had to adapt to a change in
plans or priorities. How did you handle the change
and what did you learn from the experience?
ANS :- Last semester, I had planned my study schedule well in
advance for mid-semester exams. However, just a week
before the exams, one subject's syllabus was extended unexpectedly.
This disrupted my study plan completely. At first, I
was stressed, but I quickly reassessed my schedule and prioritized
the most important topics. I broke down the added
material into smaller chunks and spread it over the remaining days
while reducing time from subjects I was already
confident in. I also joined a peer study group to speed up the learning
process. In the end, I managed to cover everything
and performed well in the exams. This situation taught me the
importance of flexibility and not panicking in the face of
change. Now, I always leave some buffer time in my plans to handle
such surprises and keep a problem-solving mindset durind stressfull
situation.
