Subject: Computer Science

DAY 1
Topic: ICT, Computer, Developments in Time: 40 Mins Class: VI Term: I Week: 01
the History of Computers
Book: TE New World of Computer
page (s): 05-06
Learning Objectives
By the end of this lesson students should be able to:
• Understand the concept of ICT and Computer.
• Identify key developments in the history of computers, including the Abacus, Napier Bones, Pascaline, and the
Slide Rule.
• Discuss how these inventions contributed to modern computing.
Teaching Strategies Lesson Resources:
• Brainstorming • Textbook
• Effective Questioning • Visual Aids (Images of Abacus, Napier Bones,
• Storytelling Pascaline and Slide Rule).
• Multimedia (Short video about the evolution of
computers).
Introduction/Warmup (05 Mins)
• Greet the students and welcome them to the new class.
• Motivate them to pay full attention during their Computer Science lessons as this week they will learn many
new things about ICT and history of computers.
• Briefly discuss the importance of computers in daily life.
• Pose a Brainstorming question: “How do you think people calculated large numbers before modern
calculators and computers?”
• Note down students’ responses and connect them to the topic of the day.
Development/Procedure (20 Mins)
1. ICT and Computers
• Briefly explain ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and its applications in daily life.
• Define a computer and discuss its importance.
2. Historical Developments
• Explain each historical development with visuals:
• Abacus: Oldest tool for calculation; used beads on rods.
• Napier Bones: Early tool to aid in multiplication and division.
• Pascaline: Invented by Blaise Pascal; early mechanical calculator.
• Slide Rule: A tool used for complex calculations before calculators.
• Use a short video or animation to illustrate their functionality

• Relate each invention to modern computing concepts (e.g., how the Abacus laid the foundation for binary
systems).

Topic: Electronic Computers Time: 40 Min
Book: TE New World of Computer
page(s): 6-7
Learning Objectives
By the end of this lesson students should be able to:
• Understand the characteristics of each computer generation.
• Compare the key differences among the generations of computers.
• Identify examples of technology used in different generations.
Teaching Strategies Lesson Resources:
3. Brainstorming • Textbook
4. Effective Questioning • Multimedia (Short video about the
evolution of computers).
Introduction/Warmup (05 Mins)
• Begin with Brainstorming: Ask students, “What do you know about computers? How do you think they evolved
over time?”
• Use questioning to elicit prior knowledge about technological progress (e.g., old phones vs. smartphones).
Development/Procedure (20 Mins)
• Explain the Generations of Computers:
• 1st Generation: Vacuum tubes, large, slow, costly, and energy-intensive.
• 2nd Generation: Transistors, smaller, faster, and more reliable.
• 3rd Generation: Integrated circuits, increased performance, and reduced size.
• 4th Generation: Microprocessors, personal computers, and advanced software.
• 5th Generation: AI, robotics, and quantum computing.
• Discuss Key Differences: Create a comparison table on the whiteboard to highlight advancements in size,
speed, cost, and technology.
• Engage Students: Show visual aids (pictures) depicting computers from each generation.
