1.1 Set up a user access point for your company

Access point is a networking device that allows easy access to the internet, speccon we use router as our access point
and it make the set up simple

Since the router was already working before we come to the new building the setup set up procedure wont be long
complicated we just need to connect here and there;

the following hardwares or nodes are needed in order to setup the access
● router
● Network cables
● computers

First step: connect the network cable to each computer/device - once you connect the device the monitor automatically
will show show “set up network ” option
Second step setup up your wifi - set your unique SSID name, password AND also the password and name of the router
and choose WPA2. after entering all the credentials restart your computer to apply the changes

Next step is to connect to the internet

Currently everyone is using this register as our control to enter/access the building and it records attendances

1.3 What purpose does your company have for an access audit trail?

As a speccon is a small company, the audit trail is an important tool for them because they use it to record income and
expenses used to buy hardwares and other stuff. Most of the time they use paper to record the information, sometimes
they also use electronic record
1.4 Which methods of controlling access does your company use?

Register - everyone use the register to sign in the morning and afternoon to record our attendance

Gate- for now it is used by management only to access/when entering the building
1.5 Demonstrate technical mechanisms that help your manager maintain individual accountability in the
company.

● Communication - speccon communicate information using standard procedure, whatsapp group, elearning platform
for students ,supervisor, manager and performance evaluation, group meetings as the pictures provided below
● Providing updates on progress - as students we are being updated weekly of our tasks progress via sms and LMS

● Set expectations from day one - at the first we are told to come to the office from to friday to perform /to write
summatives assessment and logbook

● Our assessment are being monitored online by students instructor/supervisor

S.O 2.: Explain local area computer network performance issues.

2.1 In groups discuss solutions to resolve network performance issues for SpecCon

As a group we were discussing a way in which we can resolve speccon network

As you can see the setup is not well organised and some computers do not have ethernet cable ,on top of that only few
computers are allowed to connect to wifi, even then wifi is not stable. It is rare as an user or employee to be connected
the whole working hours.they bought router extender but still its not helping , the best is to add few routers or they could
select the best channel wifi that will everyone

2.2 Which diagnostic tools are used to collect data in your company?
Currently they are using avast anti virus as their diagnostic tool, it runs 24 hours a day and it detect any alert of threat and
removes infected files
2.3 In groups investigate the possibility of purchasing a LAN for your company.

We using router and its extender for connection which is the cheapest method for accessing internet

Setting up LAN is the easiest procedure you don't need to pay outsider to do for it as you can on the picture below
everything is easy not complicated
2.4 Recommend processor types for your company using research.

Speccon are using raspberry pi 4 which is cheap and has many many interfaces such as (HDMI, multiple USB, Ethernet,
onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, USB powered ect

Also they are using corei5 and corei7(but not all the computers) which is the best in performance and cheapest

2.5 What are the biggest difficulties faced by your company when using the LAN system?
The wifi connection is not stable,most of the time it goes off because only limited number is allowed to be connected on
the router and it affects our work progress

Most of their computers are not working properly , our work is delayed

3.1 Your company has network support issues during lockdown, create a proposal of how you can offer remote
IT support to assist resolve those issues.

Speccon uses Anydesk as remote control, this software can be installed in a mobile phone or laptop. It easy so
communicate with your coworker when your not in office and guide them if they are network connection issues

While using anyDesk you can guide them on the following the step to configure their network or connect with using ZOOM
Those who are using routers at home
● They should go to settings to check their wifi name and password it could be simple as admin then after update
your password or login credentials
● Or restart the router if after restarting it does not connect
● If the above options does not work out for you update your windows it could be the cause

3.2 Outline a plan of how your company deals with network support issues.

We use network diagnostics that come with the computer or laptops when you troubleshoot automatically find and fix
issues. To run the troubleshooter for network problems, right-click the network icon in your System Tray and choose
Troubleshoot Problems

Or we update drivers frequently which help to different hardware components work smoothly with your computer

Intersect /connect between multiple networks

A file and print server is the generic term for any computer that is being used to provide file storage and printing for other
computers.

● Click Settings > Devices > Bluetooth > Printers > Mouse > Add a printer > The printer that I want isn't listed.
● Select the Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings check box, and click Next.
● Select Create a new port.
 ● Change the type of port to Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next.
● In the Hostname or IP address field, enter the IP address of the print server, and click Next.
● Click Custom > Settings > LPR.
● Under LPR Settings, enter a Queue Name. The queue name can be any set of numbers or letters.
● Click OK > Next.
● Select a driver from the list, and click Next.
● Click Next until you are asked if you want to print a test page. To confirm that the printer was successfully
added, send a test page to your printer

We using this LMS platform to communicate as a students, we get updated of our work progress, we chat with manager
when we are having connection problem(unable to login) and you use it even when your not at the office environment

4.1 in groups create research on viruses and how they impact local area networks.

This research will focus on revealing mechanisms or procedures which would help small companies (such as speccon) or
LAN users to protect computers from virus attack.The simplest recommendation for this research is virus prevention and
detections. It is the easiest and cheapest way for virus attack by practising such as keeping the antivirus programs upto
date.

Types and ways of computer virus attack

● Boot sector virus - it spread thorung the disk and hard drive once the boot sector is infected
● Program virus - the virus hides in the files or documents and once you open it start infecting the system by copying
the virus to another files
● Stealth - tend to be found in boot sector or program files, it makes changes in the boot table or sometimes it
redirect the disk read to other location

At speccon/infinity we are using windows 8 and 10, when it comes to protections we are finding fewer problems than ever
before because it comes with windows defender and on top of that the computers are loaded with more than one antivirus
software programs it slow it down, as each software program would try to overlap each other, and that causes a
performance issues

In order to improve our performance they need to, maybe install adblock plus because it can automatically stop malicious
scripts, unwanted popups and ads - even those running on dangerous webpages, and prevent the deployment of
ransomware that locks up your computer screen. We need to continue to practise safe browsing and be guarded when
opening email attachments. An email from a long lost-lost friend or colleague or an old boss with attachments arriving out
of the blue should raise a red flag. The best rule of thumb is that if you don't know what it is, just don't click it

4 .2 Which methods does your company use to prevent, detect and eradicate viruses

At Speccon or Infinity they are using avast antivirus(using one copy non paid software to many computers) where you’d
have to tolerate a lot of ads(especially when you open chrome) or allow your personal data to be collected to get malware
defenses that nonetheless fell short of the best paid programs. On the other hand the computer that are using paid
version of avast software it works well there is a real time protection of files, emails , web surfing and it scans browser
plugin to find installs that have a poor reputation and may be malicious
And also they are using windows defenders which is built into windows 8 and 10, it used to be useless but with time it has
improved and now its the best antivirus it just needs to be updated frequently. even though it is short on features
compared to paid antivirus programs, its malware-detection rates beat those of many paid brands.
