When Implementing The Strategy For Adera

The document outlines a strategy for teaching Adera, an ENL student, in a science classroom by using illustrations, tangible objects, and technology to enhance her understanding of academic and spoken English. Activities such as a plant growth experiment are suggested to engage her through visuals, growth charts, and time-lapse videos, while also promoting her language development and comprehension of scientific concepts. The approach aims to create an interactive learning environment that fosters Adera's motivation and gradual understanding of the subject matter.

725-Module 3: Assignment

When implementing the strategy for Adera, an ENL student newly in the science

classroom, use of illustrations and tangible objects must be arranged. These strategies can help to

explain the difference between her academic and spoken English and she can therefore be able to

understand what is taught in scientific lessons. Good activities to teach both demonstrate and

explanation is a plant growth experiment. Start with naming and explanation of some terms like

“seed,” “soil,” “water” and “growth”; “sunlight” and “measurement” using pictures and learning

material to illuminate the differences. Make groups of the class, distribute seeds, soil, pots and

water in every group. Illustrate the planting process with clear and simple sequences so that

people who are watching can be able to understand.

Furthermore, growth charts and diagrams can be used to analyze observations as well as

to engage Adera through the use of simple questions that are accompanied by visuals. Introduce

technology in the classroom by making use of time-lapse videos of plants growing to help relate

the vocabulary used as well as the lesson concepts to the real world. Check Adera’s

comprehension using graphics and writing such as identifying parts of a plant using the defined

words , and oral and diagrammatic presentations of experiment procedures using drawings and

easy to understand sentences. Implemented in the framework of science, this activity also

focuses on the language development of Adera; it helps introduce her to the scientific process

and make her familiar with its principles, as well as maintains her vocabulary experience on a

continuous level. Through the visuals, technology as well as the center for teaching, Adera

remains motivated to learn and effectively, her language development as well as conceptual

understanding of scientific concepts is fostered gradually while afforded an interactive and

achievable educational environment.
