WebTree – The Basics

• WebTree starts with Tree 1 – Choice 1, and if you receive that course it moves to Choice 2. If you receive Choice 2 it moves
to Choice 3. If you receive Choice 3 it moves to Tree 4 – Choice 1.
• If you do not get Tree 1 – Choice 1, WebTree moves to Tree 2 – Choice 1 and follows the same patern as above.
• When Choices 2, 3, or 6 are not available, WebTree moves to the right.
• After Choices 4 and 7, WebTree moves to Tree 4 – Choice 1 and moves to the right.
• In the case where Choice 5 is full, WebTree moves to Choice 3 and tries 3, 4, 6, and 7 before moving to Tree 4 – Choice 1.
• Tree 4 contains 10 choices to increase your chances of receiving four courses.

Things to Consider
• Your “dream schedule” should be placed down the left-hand side of Tree 1 and in Tree 4 - Choice 1.
• Make sure there are not vertical time conflicts. Choices 1, 2, and 3, as well as 1, 5 and 6, in any Tree should not meet at the
same time.
• Choices 2 and 5, 3 and 4, and 6 and 7 can meet at the same time because WebTree will not give you both. The exception is
when Choice 5 is full, WebTree runs through Choices 3, 4, 6, and 7.
• To increase your chances of getting a course, make sure to include all sections.
o If Choice 1 has multiple sections, use the “On Save, Copy All Choices” option, then update Choice 1 on the new tree
• Option: Tree 2 - Choice 1 could be a different section of Tree 1 - Choice 1, or could be the same as Tree 1 - Choice 2
• Option: Tree 2 – Choice 2 could be the same as Tree 1 – Choice 3
• Remember: The “Add/Drop” period at the beginning of each semester can be used to refine your schedule.
