Operations Management

Project work

Description :

A real-life project is to be done by every student working in a group, as set by Dean’s office. The project
should be done in small or medium sized organizations like retail stores, healthcare units, shopping
arcades, logistics units, dairy firms, greenhouses etc. which are available in the nearby locality.

The mini project will provide a real-life exposure on how manufacturing or service units run different
operational activities at their basic level. Also, it will result in better understanding of the concepts and
models of operations management that are being discussed during the classroom sessions.

The areas selected can be product design, service design, facility layout, project management, aggregate
planning, inventory management and quality management.

Students need to study the operation processes, can identify a problem if any, and can provide
suggestions to improve the process on time or on cost.

Before mid of the semester (interim reporting):

• Study the company/organization and its different operation processes


• Identifying the problem

Deliverables :

Group presentation

Weightage : 50%

After mid semester (final reporting) :

• Elaborate on the problem identified


• Suggest possible solutions

Deliverables :

Final report :

The report to be submitted in hard copy incorporating the details mentioned below:

Report format :

1. Description of the production or service unit being studied


2. Details of the operational process
3. Objectives and methodology
4. Problems identified
5. Suggested solutions
6. Contribution

The report is to be submitted within the date mentioned below:

Project Start date : 04 August, 2023

Interim reporting : September last week, 2023

Final reporting : November 3rd week, 2023

Presentation: the group will present their work

Weightage : 50%

Total marks : 50 marks
