2. Crochet hook size 2 mm = US1 (UK1)
3. 60 mm wooden teething ring (beech or juniper rings).
4. Rattle inserts (I take one 38 mm rattle ball).
5.10 mm safety eyes.
6. A needle for sewing the parts of the toy (it is better to take the needle with a
blunt tip).
7. A long needle for tightening the eyes (I take a needle that is used for stitching
documents).
8. Fiberfill.
9. Scissors.
If you follow all the instructions precisely and use the recommended materials,
you’ll get 14 cm (~5.5 inches) height toy.

 How to crochet around the ring
Сast on 24 ch, turn the piece and work 23 sc along the chain starting with the 2 nd
stitch from the hook.
Work 7 back and forth rows with 23 sc.

Important! The number of the rows and stitches in a chain depends on your crochet
tension, crocheting hook size, variety of the yarn and the thickness of the wooden ring.
Try the piece (semi-ring) on the wooden ring in the process of making it.

Important! This piece should be sewn to the ring tightly. Otherwise the head of the
rattle will dangle. It is better to crochet less rows so that both sides of the piece would not
join absolutely on the ring but to pull the thread tightly in the process of sewing them
together around the ring.

Insert safety eyes between Rows 14 and 15 of the head at the distance of 10 sc from
each other.

At this point I start stuffing the head with fiberfill. First, I stuff the top of the head,
then I put the rattle ball into the middle and stuff the sides of the head (the rattle ball
should stay in the middle of the head so I put the stuffing around it evenly). I stuff the
head tightly. This will help to form the cheeks in the process of tightening the muzzle.

Cut the thread leaving a long tail for sewing.

At this stage you have to sew the head to the ring so that you could try the hood
on the head in the process of making it.

Sew the head to the ring

Important! If you want the head of the toy to stay tight on the ring and not to move
in the process of using it you have to fulfil two conditions:

1. The piece of crocheting should stay tight on the ring and not move on it;
2. The head should be sewn to this piece the right way.

 Recommendations: in order to sew the head the right way press it to the ring on top
with your fingers. Keep pressing the head and sew it at all the places where it touches the
piece of crocheting on the ring and not only at the centre. Otherwise the head will dangle.

Cut the thread, hide the end with the help of a needle.
Then work the bridge of the nose:
Count 20 stitches to the right from the sl st, insert the hook into the 21 st stitch (check
the photo). Keep working back and forth rows starting each row with 1 ch:
Row 1: 1 ch (count it as the 1st sc), 7 sc (8)
Row 2: 1 ch, dec, 6 sc (7)
Row 3: 1 ch, dec, 5 sc (6)
Row 4: 1 ch, dec, 4 sc (5)

At this stage you have to try the hood on the head. Put it on. The hood should touch
the ring at the back and cover the whole head. The bridge of the nose should end at the
level of the lower parts of the eyes. If the bridge of the nose is placed higher, work two
more additional rows with 4 sc.
Do not cut the thread. Keep working, work the whole piece around with sc making
2 decreases in the corners (there are arrows on the photo below). End with sl st, cut the
thread leaving a long tail for sewing.

Consists of two parts:
The bigger part:

Fold the piece into two halves and work 4 sc through the both sides. Cut the thread
leaving a long tail for sewing.

Fold the piece into two halves and work 3-4 sc through the both sides. Cut the thread,
hide the end inside.
Sew the both pieces together as it is shown on the photo below.

around with sc. Make a bridge. Fasten the thread and leave a long end for sewing.

I make pompon with Yarn Art Jeans or Alize Softy Baby according to the following
scheme:

Rows 4-6: 18 sc (3 rows)
Row 7: (1 sc, dec) х 6 (12)
Row 8: 6 dec. Sew the hole.
Stuff pompons with fiberfill slightly.

 Scarf
Cast on 4 ch. Turn the piece and start working with 2nd stitch from the hook. Work
back and forth rows with 3 sc, change the yarn colour every 2 rows. Work the scarf till
its length is approximately 21 cm (7.87 inches).

How to assemble the toy

1. Sew the hood to the head.
Put the outer part of the head on the inner one (it should touch the ring at the back).
Separate the end of the yarn that was left for sewing into two parts, insert one part into a
needle (put the second part aside for a while). The seam will look neater this way. Sew
the outer part of the head starting with the bridge of the nose. Place the bridge of the nose
right between the eyes. The hood should touch the ring at the back.
Sew the inner part to the outer one around the whole piece. If the thread isn`t long
enough, take the second part of the thread (that was put aside) and use it for sewing but
move to the other direction.

2. Tightening of the eyes
Consists of two stages:
Tighten the eyes down. For tightening the eyes, I take a long needle. Insert the long
thread of the head colour into this needle.
1. Insert the needle into the middle of the neck, draw it out at the center of the outer
part of the first eye;
2. Insert the needle into the center of the inner part of this eye, draw it out at the
middle of the neck where it was inserted at the start;
3. There will be a loop, tighten it;

 4. Insert the needle with the same thread into the middle of the neck slightly to the
right (1sc) from the point where it was first inserted. Draw it out at the centre of the
outer part of the second eye;
5. Insert the needle into the center of the inner part of the second eye, draw it out at
the neck again. There will be a loop, tighten it;
6. Pull one end of the thread, then pull the other one. Tie the both ends together, cut
them and hide them inside the head.

You can leave the tightening at this stage. But I prefer to make the 2nd stage as well,
I tighten the eyes to the center. Keep working with the same thread:
1. Insert the needle into the middle of the neck, draw it out at the center of the upper
part of the first eye.
2. Insert the needle into the center of the lower part of this eye, draw it out at the
middle of the neck again. There will be a loop, tighten it from the muzzle’s side.
3. Make the same actions with the second eye.

 Thus, the eyes are set deep and beautiful cheeks are formed.
Tie the ends of the threads that are left after the tightening of the eyes together, cut
them and hide them into the head.

3. Sew the beak (the big part above the small part). Embroider the whites of the
eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows (if you want). For making eyelashes I separate the black yarn
into four threads and use only one of them.

4. Headphones
Sew the band, then sew the ear pads above the band stuffing them a bit with fiberfill.

 5. The hat and the scarf
Sew the hat as it is shown on the photo (few stitches are enough). You can stuff the
hat with some fiberfill so it would have some volume. Sew the pompon to the hat before
or after the sewing the hat to the head.
I tie the scarf around the toy`s neck and fasten its ends with some stitches to the
crocheting piece on the ring.

6. If you are making the female toy, sew the wings (close to the neck) and the bow.
