Mee 361 Lecture Note(Angular Measurement)

The document provides an overview of angular measurement, defining angles and their units, and detailing various instruments used for measuring angles, such as protractors and sine bars. It highlights the design requirements for sine bars and their applications in measuring known and unknown angles. Additionally, it mentions the use of taper measuring instruments for specific applications.

ANGULAR MEASUREMENT
INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION CONT.
 The angle is defined as the opening between
two lines which meet at a point.
 Angle can be measured in degree (°), minutes
(‘) and seconds (‘’)
 The difference between the angular
measurement and linear measurement is that
there is no absolute standard is required for
angular measurement.
Instruments for Angular Measurement
1. Protractor 4. Sine Centre
 Universal Protractor 5. Angle Gauges
 Vernier bevel protractor 6. Spirit Level
 Dial bevel protractor 7. Clinometers
 Optical bevel protractor 8. Plain Index Center
2. Sine Bars 9. Auto-collimators
3. Sine Tables
Protractor
Universal Bevel Protractor
Measurement of Angles Using Bevel Protractor
Angles and their Supplements
Optical Bevel Protractor
Sine Bars
The Sine Bar
Uses of Sine Bar
A Sine may be used for the following cases
Measuring known angles or locating any work to a given
angle
Checking of unknown angles
Checking of unknown angles of heavy components
Design Requirements for Sine Bars
• The design requirement of a sine bar is as follows;
• The rollers must be equal in diameter and true geometric cylinders
• The distance between the roller axis must be precise and known
and this must be neutrally parallel
• The upper surface of the beam of the beam must be flat and
parallel with the roller axis and equidistant from each other.
In summary, these are development of sine bar
principle and are set in a similar manner. The sine
bar is suitably only for a relatively small work of
light weight but the sine table has a larger working
surface area and it is much more robust than the
sine bars suitable for larger and heavier work
Take home (both in the note and submission)
• Discussed on the Taper measuring instrument
and it can be used for the;
a. measurement of taper holes
b. measurement of taper shafts
c. measurement of taper holes on the sine table
