The document outlines the tutorial for ELEE 3250U: Electric Machines, focusing on two induction motor problems. It includes calculations for motor speed, stator current, power factor, mechanical power, torque, and efficiency for a 460-V, 25-hp motor, as well as a 52 hp, 882 rpm motor with various parameters. The tutorial is led by Dr. Mohamed Youssef and Asjad Elahi, with specified office hours for assistance.

ELEE 3250U: Electric Machines – Fall 2024

Tutorial # 7
Prof.: Dr. Mohamed Youssef Teaching Assistant: Asjad Elahi

Office hours: Mondays 12 – 12:30 pm at ERC 1056

1- A 460-V, 25-hp, 60-Hz, four-pole, Y-connected induction motor has the following impedances in ohms
per phase referred to the stator circuit:

The total rotational losses are 1100 W and are assumed constant. The core loss is lumped in with the
rotational losses. For a rotor slip of 2.2 percent at the rated voltage and rated frequency, find the motor

a) speed
b) stator current
c) power factor
d) Pmech and Pout
e) Tmech and Tload
f) efficiency

2- A 52 hp, 882 rpm, 8-pole, 230-V, 60Hz, Y-connected wound-rotor induction motor has a rotor
impedance of referred to the stator circuit. The stator winding impedance is negligible.
Determine

a) The synchronous speed

b) The speed at which the motor develops the pull-out (maximum) torque
c) The pull-out torque
d) The full-load torque, the mechanical torque, and rotational loss
e) The starting torque as a percentage of the pull-out torque
f) The additional resistance that must be added to the rotor circuit to make the starting torque equal to
75% of the pull-out torque.
g) The input voltage is reduced to 200-V. The pull-out torque and the speed at which the motor develops
the pull-out torque for the new voltage
